Movie split into two titles

Last night I was watching the Evil Roy Slade dvd from Universal/Timeless Media. At the midway point the movie freezes while Henry Gibson is talking for about 5 seconds and then continues, cutting off the last word or two he was saying. I thought great, defective dvd. Then I noticed the player's counter had reset to 0:00 at the pause/freeze.
This morning I open the disc in the computer and as I thought the movie is split into two titles, like episodes of a tv series disc. The pause/freeze being the player accessing the next title like when you use PLAY ALL on a tv series disc. The disc is a 5 too, the titles aren't even on seperate layers.
Why would anybody author a disc this way, jacking up the middle of the movie?

Toxic Avenger 2 had a considerable amount of footage that Troma just split the movie into two easily creating Toxic Avenger 3 with little effort.

Kill Bill is another one but that's not the question the OP has. I thought about the same thing as you Giles, before I read the OP's post.

yeah, I kind of read the topic header as being different than what rw2516 stated in his thread - likewise, I read that 'The Hobbit' and the second LOTR prequel will be shot simultaneousily.

An overseas friend of mine has a PAL DVD recorder that does the same thing, but only when it burns DL discs. I had to use a program called DVD2One to join the titles. But that's some pretty poor mastering to a) have that occur on an official release and B) have it occur on a SL disc.

I have the same dvd as rw2516... It's a very poor encoding by Timeless Media Group.

It's too bad that this company finally got some licensed material, only to treat it like their PD crap.

I thought this was going to be about movies that have two parts to a title, such as "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" or "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

One could argue that all of the Toxic Avenger movies were created with little effort.

A lot of Caballero's classic porn movies are authored this way too. Some are split into 4 titles. (The technical quality of their tapes in the 80s was above average but their DVDs are utter crap, turns out they're not owned by the same people anymore.)

If you were to read one of Lloyds books, or watch one of his recent exhaustive behind the scene sequences than you would know that is not true.

Also a few of you are just reading titles it would seem, check out OP again
Giles and Dirk, I'm looking at you

The Bridge On The River Kwai is split into two titles. It was in the early days of DL, and there is a noticable layer change on it.
