The Weinsteins own Suspiria. Blue Underground only has the rights to issue the DVD just for a few more months.

The Weinsteins are releasing a new DVD later of Suspiria this year (with the restored print) when Mother of Tears hits DVD (which they also own).

Fango has learned that Anchor Bay Entertainment has a pair of new DVDs of Dario Argento favorites set for release this summer. 1982?s TENEBRE and 1984?s PHENOMENA will both be presented in new 16x9-enhanced widescreen transfers (1.85:1 and 1.66:1 respectively) with Dolby 5.1 Surround soundtracks. All the previous special features will be replicated, with the addition of a new featurette on each:

TENEBRE:
? Audio commentary by Argento, composer Claudio Simonetti and journalist Loris Curci
? New Voices of the Unsane retrospective featurette
? The Roving Camera Eye of Dario Argento featurette
? Creating Sounds of Terror featurette
? Alternate end credit music
? Argento bio
? Trailer

PHENOMENA:
? Audio commentary by Argento, FX creator Sergio Stivaletti, Simonetti and Curci
? New A Dark Fairy Tale retrospective featurette
? Luigi Cozzi & The Art of Macrophotography featurette
? Argento on THE JOE FRANKLIN SHOW
? Simonetti ?Jennifer? music video
? Bill Wyman ?Valley? music video
? Argento bio
? Trailer

These two will also be issued in a new Argento boxed set, joined by the previous discs of TRAUMA, THE CARD PLAYER and DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK? Date/price specifics are coming soon.

The Phenomena artwork is pretty bad though.

Wow, that art is total shit. The only reason Tenebre doesn't look that bad is because Phenomena looks terrible. Still, if the transfers are right I'll be picking both of these up. I'm sure they'll be relatively cheap.

Are you really going to judge the cover art? I have no problem with Tenebre's cover, but Phenomena could be a lot better.

I'm happy that Anchor Bay is finally re-releasing these with new transfers (and hopefully remastered soundtracks) along with some extra bonus features.

It's going to be sad to finally retire my Limited Edition sets, but I'm game. Hell, I might go for the tin depending on what it looks like.

The Phenomena cover is almost the same as the old VHS art which was under the U.S. name "Creepers".

Haha. That cover art brings back memories. The first time I saw Phenomena was under the Creepers title. I was only about 12 or 13 and I rented it from the local video store because the cover said it featured songs by Iron Maiden!

No, I'm not going to judge the cover art. Oh, wait, I already did. Twice.

And despite the fact that I'm looking forward to these releases, I still think the cover art sucks. The orginal VHS art for Phenomena would have been a major improvement. And the lame, photoshopped backgrounds for both are totally the suck.

I like the cover art/photo for the Dutch import of Tenebrae, known as 'Shadows' where a woman is lying in her own pool of blood.

Wow, the Tenebre picture looks so much better photoshopped onto the cover of the box sex, with the better detail and the weird shapes overlaid and the giant "Dario Argento" in yellow.

it's how i feel too. since AB has already released BR discs, and doesn't seem to be too small to struggle to do such a thing with these films, i feel it's an unnecessary (potentially piss-taking) new edition.

still, since i don't want to re-buy stuff on BR (not much anyway) i'd say i'd only be tempted by argento's tenebrae, inferno and suspiria now that i've long had the DVDs of the (almost...) uncut films.

it'd be a deal sealer though, if it was bluray... I buy these editions at a heartbeat... AB's relunctance to dive straight into a hidef releases seems like a cocktease. Stating that these are "new 16x9-enhanced widescreen transfers" - yeah, so what, some of us would like the superior alternate - an actual HiDef Disc edition.

Fangoria is listing the new Argento box and individual releases of Tenebre and Phenomena as having a May 25th release date.

I can't wait to finally get Phenomena. It really sucked that the few AB horrors that I never bought went OOP and the ones I got stayed in print.
