In response, The Asylum contended that Age of the Hobbits has nothing to do with the world of J.R.R. Tolkien but is, in fact, an action-adventure film about the pre-human hominid species homo floresiensis, which has been nicknamed “hobbits” in scientific literature—an argument that, as he wrote in his ruling, the judge found “disingenuous.”
In a just world, the makers of THE HOBBIT would include AGE OF THE HOBBITS as an extra on an eventual multi-disc special edition DVD release. Just to show that they're big enough to include alternate interpretations of the Hobbit mythos.

Re: ASYLUM DVDs - Dont they get sued?
I saw a copy of "Battle of Los Angeles" in a Best Buy dump bin the other day.
I can't believe they get away with this.

Hey, don't dig at Battle of Los Angeles. It has Kel Mitchell of Good Burger fame!

There's an article in this week's EW that Asylum (and like-distributors/studios) is being sued by some of the major studios. Disney sued over "Braver". I guess they are getting tired of these people making money by riding the coattails of their creations. I don't blame them.

Note that "Braver" was some other studio, not Asylum.
A choice quote on exploiting the audience:
Companies like the Asylum and Renegade Animation... argue that they're simply offering the public more of what it already wants...
"There's all this hoopla around a specific subject — whether it's Battleship or whatever — and we turn around and capitalize on that," says David Garber, who handles worldwide sales for the Asylum. And Bales insists their fans know what they're getting when they pick up a copy of Pirates of Treasure Island instead of Pirates of the Caribbean or I Am Omega instead of I Am Legend. "Our audience is people who want something they don't have to think too hard about, something they can watch, enjoy, and then forget about. If there's confusion, it's among old people and stupid people."

Remembering that I still need to find and watch Norman's Awesome Experience, which was a knock-off of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Their titles are certainly more distinctive than ever:
