In no particular order (except for Blade Runner, which is easily my #1)...

Blade Runner: 5-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition- The DVD a half-decade in the making finally arrived on the film's 25th Anniversary. The timing of this release couldn't have been better. Here's a DVD that exceeds on the highest of expectations and delivers on nearly every aspect of the DVD format. Perhaps the only flaws of this release were a lack of coverage on Vangelis' music (which is briefly touched upon in the exhaustive making-of doc) and lack of image galleries (which I read were taken out due to space limitations). But seriously, how could I gripe about this if everything else was so fan-friggin-tastic. Here's hoping that George Lucas sees this release and releases something similar to this for his "archival" box set of his fabled six-film series.

Hot Fuzz: 3-Disc Collector's Edition - The funniest movie of 2007 is also one of the best DVDs of 2007. 5 commentaries, tons of behind-the-scenes featurettes and blogs, plus we get to see Edgar Wright's first stab at a cop movie and other bells and whistles. Great stuff all around.

Lost: The Complete Third Season - The Unexplored Experience - One of the biggest surprises of the 2007 TV season was the continued upswing of Lost. After a somewhat lackluster sophomore season and a slow, staggered start to season 3, the show once again picked up steam thanks to the scheduling of 18 straight episodes, culminating in another mind-bending finale. The extras once again are top-notch and encourage repeat viewings. Plus, the Blu-Ray version allowed fans access to even more secrets.

The Simpsons: The Complete Tenth Season - Ah yes, what would a list from yours truly be without a Simpsons season boxset? Well, truth be told, this could be the last year it happens. This season (and season 9 to some extent) marked the end of what many people call the "classic era." There's some great episodes here and there, but also present were seeds of the show's nadir (too much Homer, nonsensical plot devices, cartoony humor that broke the "rules"). Even the commentaries, while still very entertaining and informative, are starting to become more of a laugh track than an honest look back at the episode. One thing that's kinda odd is that the "Sneak Peek at The Simpsons Movie DVD" on this set isn't present on the DVD for The Simpsons Movie.

Transformers: Two-Disc Special Edition - Say what you will about Michael Bay, he knows how to put together some great DVDs, and this one was no exception. Great video and audio, an entertaining (and ego-nuts) audio commentary from Bay, and some pretty cool making-of stuff round out this set.

Spider-Man 3: 2-Disc Special Edition - Okay, the movie was a bit of a letdown after the first two, but the DVD was fantastic. Great audio/video and revealing extras shed a bit of insight into Sam Raimi's reasons for trying to cram everything into finishing his superhero trilogy.

Live Free or Die Hard: Unrated 2-Disc Edition - One of the pleasant surprises of this year turned out to be Live Free or Die Hard, which despite its watered-down PG-13 rating, delivered on gritty and over-the-top action that the series is known for. Add to that some pretty cool special features, as well as the inclusion of both Rated and Unrated versions on one disc (Judd Apatow please take note).

300: 2-Disc Special Edition - One of biggest blockbuster hits of the year and it's also one of the best DVDs of the year. The real meat however, lies in its HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions, which really make the digital graphic look of the film pop out like no other.

The Departed: 2-Disc Special Edition - The lack of Scorsese commentary is disappointing, but the rest of the DVD is very solid. The cornerstone of this disc is the feature-length "Scorsese on Scorsese", and documentary in which Scorsese looks back at his directing career.

Planet Earth - One of the greatest nature documentaries ever produced. A must see on DVD and the HD-DVD/Blu-ray version should be required viewing for anyone who is on the fence for High Definition.

Honorary Mention

Knocked Up/Superbad - While the unrated versions of Judd Apatow comedic masterpieces may run 10 minutes too long, the DVDs are chock full of hilarious and cool special features.
