Since you asked, I don't really find much to like in your collection. I'd give it a D. I'd perhaps go for an F, but I'm giving partial credit for the effort.
With that said, it is a pretty silly thread. The best DVD collection in the world is your own. The odds of someone else having all the movies you like without any additional crap is extremely unlikely. I'm sure some would love my collection and some would despise it, with most falling somewhere in between. But I didn't buy it for other people (except for the crappy ones that belong to my wife and kids
).
Perhaps a more productive question would be, "What should I add to my collection?". Then people could see what you like and offer suggestions. This thread however is just inviting abuse. I give it (the thread) a D+.

I would never have heard of this film were it not for my participation in film forums, and it is one of the greatest films ever made, IMO.
I do not understand the narrowminded POV of people who declare that any film that is from the silent era, is in black and white, and was made before 1970 is too incomprehensible to watch. Whatever happened to opening your mind to embrace new perspective and fresh ideas, to learn about the noblest aspirations of humanity through works of the intellect?

There is nothing wrong with old artsy films.

A silly thread yes. A good way to get noticed on this site yes. I love my movies and so do a lot of people I know. I never buy movies to just make my collection better, I just buy movies that I love.

Your collection kind of feels like I'm checking out the New Release section on hollywoodvideo.com, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's all relative to taste. There were some great movies made before 1970 (non-artsy, trust me) which you may want to check out to broaden your horizons. I would say AFI's top 100 list might be a good place to start.
But I really can't hate on a fellow owner of Shakira - Live & Off the Record.

As others have said, who cares what others say? Your collection is the second best in the world (ties with everyone else in the world, and trailing only mine).
That said, I give your collection a C-/D+; get some older films ASAP.
This thread I give a solid B for entertainment value, and some good recommendations of some more artsy stuff to add to my much too mainstream-centered (so far) collection.

Just kidding. Looks like mine, so darn good for a mainstream collection.
Too much Sandler though. And much too new; only 15 films before 1970, but at least they are all one's worth owning (imho).

First off I want to say that the OP deserves all the criticism he gets...because he asked for it. Having said that I'm sure a lot of you would probably say the same about my collection. Do you think I care what people on the internet and probably will never meet say...ummm no. The movies I buy are the ones I like and that's all that matters to me. You look at my collection and you'll see a lot of bad action movies, because I like to see stuff blow up and listen to the rumble my SVS puts out. I'm sure a lot of you would turn your uppity noses up in the air at my collection, oh well, life goes on.
Then thing I find interesting is the amount of arrogance that goes with owning movies. Looking down on other collection's because you and those like you don't deem it acceptable. One would think you actually made the movies, but I guess your better and more intelligent(someone mentioned this earlier) because you went out and bought the movie...all praise goes to you. I can't believe some one said that because a poster owned certain movies you could tell he/she was intelligent, what an ignorant statement. I would submit that most people of high intelligence don't waste their time watching movies...but thats only my opinion.
But still having said all that I would never be naive enough to suggest that movies before the 70's aren't worth mentioning. I would be really interested in seeing how the age of the poster plays into the movies they buy. Myself, I'm 32...a young 32. And I don't care for most of (not all) the movies that were made before I was born. Its just not my bag babe. In case that movie reference is beneath you, its from Austin Powers.

I'd sure love to see a list from those who claim to not like movies made before 1970 of films they've actually seen that were made before 1970. My guess is that this poster is just making a blanket denouncement of ~70% of cinema history (of which it contains about 95% of the overall true value), the majority of which (s)he has never actually seen... it's one thing to be ignorant, it's far worse to wear it like a badge on the internet. And you can look up the word "denouncement" in the Dictionary if it was above you.
