Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest (01/15/2008)

Looks like Fox is releasing another standalone Family Guy "movie". This time, it's the season six Star Wars spoof premiere episode.

Fox Home Entertainment has announced Family Guy Presents: "Blue Harvest" which parodies the movie that started it all – Episode IV A New Hope. The season six premiere will be available to own in either a standard ($22.98) or a special edition ($34.99). The standard edition will include more than four minutes of exclusive DVD material, animatics/commentaries, interviews with Seth MacFarlane and George Lucas, an Uncensored Track, and a teaser of the next Star Wars spoof, "Something, Something, Something Dark Side". The special edition will include a 3-D fight scene (with glasses!), a t-shirt, trading cards, an exclusive brochure, and collectible packaging.
Take a look at the special edition packaging here.

Although the MSRP of the "special edition" seems way too high (hopefully it will be much lower during release week), being a fan of Star Wars and Family Guy I'm definitely considering getting this set.

That special edition is mighty tempting. Will need to see what I can get it for.

special edition all the way!!

I am a huge Family Guy fan and thought this was one of the funniest episodes in awhile. I will definately be getting the special edition, its mostly worth it just for the t-shirt as most Family Guy shirts are around $20. Wish it was going to release before christmas, but its cool, it releases a day before my anniversary. woo-hoo

That's lame. Why not just release it with the rest of the season at the proper time, you know, like every other episode?

This "cash grab" stuff is getting really annoying, and will only hurt their bottom line later on.

Will this episode not be included in the inevitable season 6 release?

Probably. Just like The Stewie Griffin Movie. I don't own any Family Guy DVDs whatsoever (due to space limitations), so that's a huge factor influencing why I am considering getting it.

Seems a bit expensive for 40 odds minutes.

I wonder what Something, Something, Something, Dark Side will be. I'm hoping for an Empire parody.

Being as how the special edition has only "bonus items" and not additional content, I'll pass on it (though the packaging is quite nice).

I'll also wait to see if the episode(s) are included in the Volume 6 set before I buy. And if they aren't, I'm guessing that used copies of Blue Harvest will be popping up aplenty by the time Volume 6 is released.

I'm betting it's the segment from an earlier episode where Peter talks about the Emperor figuring out the perfect pattern for Star Wars dialogue. "Something, something, something, destiny. Something, something, something dark side."

It it's more than that, I'll be surprised.

But I know the scene you're referring to, which is likely where the name came from.

Very cool packaging, but other than that it's a pretty worthless release. Might as well wait for the Volume 6 set (provided that they'll include the episode). I am noticing a new trend of releasing individual DVDs of very popular episodes from recent TV shows (first 4 eps of 24 season 6 and the upcoming Imaginationland trilogy from South Park to name a few).

Agreed. I wouldn't mind having this for a reasonable price.

Especially for 23 (or 35!) dollars. I mean, maybe $10 would be reasonable.

this was one of the worst family guy episodes ive ever seen. season 1-3 were really good but it just seems like theve gone downhill ever since they came back on the air.

If they were really clever, one of those trading cards will spoof the C-3PO penis card.

Retail prices in the $34.98 range usually seems to translate to $22.99 on release week.
