So let me get this straight. The new Die Hard 2 & 3 SteelBooks are definitely the 2-Disc versions, but the matching Die Hard 1 is only the 1-Disc version? And the old Die Hard 1 SteelBook that's been out for awhile is the 2-Disc version, but the artwork doesn't match with these new ones?

I'm also confused. I looked up the steelbooks on the FutureShop website (the Canadian BestBuy equivalent) and they all advertise the Die Hard 1, 2 and 3 steelbooks as 1-disc.

Do any Canadian members have any info for a fellow Canuck?

All the new "Die Hard" (1,2,3) Exclusive Steelbooks from Best Buy USA, released 11/22/07, are the 2-disc SE's and are advertised as such. Their art work simply matches the previously released 1-disc Amaray case with slipcover versions that came out 6/19/07.

2-disc Steelbooks (11/22/07) (Exclusive to Best Buy USA)

1-disc non-Steelbooks (6/19/07)

The previous "Die Hard" (1) Steelbook which was not exclusive to Best Buy is also the 2-disc SE, but with better art work imo.

2-disc Steelbook (6/5/07)

All the new "Die Hard" (1,2,3) Exclusive Steelbooks from Futureshop Canada, released 11/22/07, are the 2-disc SE's, but are NOT advertised as such.

2-disc Steelbooks (11/22/07) (Exclusive to Futureshop Canada)

Yep. I just went into FutureShop today and picked up the Die Hard3 and Die Hard4 steelbooks. They're both 2-disc; so it's confirmed that the Canadian steelbooks are all 2-disc as well.

I might be sounding off here, but, even though I'm going to buy the DH2 and DH4 steelbooks sometime soon, I don't much like the artwork for the trilogy. Too busy with the flames in the corner. I already own the first DH steelbook (the dark silver one), which looks very simple and iconic. Anyway, this looks like my chance to pick a couple of these up.

this is one double dip that i won't be partaking in. i got the original Trilogy box set for $20 from Best Buy three years ago and between the superb content and the value, i see no need to spend more on one movie than i paid on the entire trilogy, just for packaging. i will buy the high-def version at some point (unneeded right now, as i haven't gone the HD route yet), but that's well down the road...

no judgement on other's decisions, that's just what i've chosen to do.

I'm definitely the kind of DVD buyer you are in that regard. I waited a long time to pickup Die Hard, foreseeing a steelbook which ended up coming true; but I bit the bullet and bought a used Die Hard3 right afterward, which I sold once I found out it came out in steelbook.

Once I realised I could own my favorites (1, 3 and 4) all in steelbook, which on top of that won't have the frustrating french translations on the box-art/synopsis/spine as well (its standard in Canada for everything but steelbook), I had to go for it.

My interpretation of the series has always been that 1, 3 and 4 are canon, because it seems like they've even ignored the events of 2 in Die Hard3. So my wicked lineup is 'the Die Hard trilogy', where there's no numerical sequels, just sequels with wicked-ass names. Now all displayed in 2-disc editions housed in wicked-ass metal cases.

Saw both on the same shelf today (USA Best Buy) - the Viva with the gray liner and a real steelbook. Far fewer of the Viva so maybe that packaging supplier was phased out.

Sorry no photo but I thought I'd chime in since I saw them

If I want the two-disc sets, does that mean that I have to go pick'em up used? Did FOX stop selling them or something?

Hmm. That's odd. Oh, well, I doubt that they'll be that hard to find. FOX have gone weird with their steelbook stuff lately.
