After looking it up on the Criterion site, it looks like the Bergman box is just a repackage of the already available spine #'s 11, 237, 321, and 139.

To the extent that the new edition of 'Chasing Amy' was announced at all, it was said to be coming out in 2008; it's not a literal anniversary, it was approximate.

Usually in December, Criterion slows down things.

The MSRP of the Bergman box set is $99.95, which would make the set about $65 at DVD Planet. That's a very good price for four Criterions, especially if you don't have any of them yet.

I know, but I assumed at least some of these would be newer versions (especially The Seventh Seal).

i think i'll pick up the Ingmar Bergman set.

Two-Lane Blacktop is the epitome of obscure, ultra-fantastic 70's gold. Warren Oates (one of the most underrated actors ever) owns in this one, and it's a totally ideal release for Criterion. Count me in.

Anyone know about the packaging on the bergman set? 4 new covers? Gatefold? Keepers?

Probably just a slipcase over the current DVDs, a la the Kurosawa Samurai box.

I'm all in for Two Lane Black Top. It sounds like absolute gold. I already have all the Bergmans, so the set gets my very own personal raspberry. PBBBTH.

A little bummed that we didn't get some of the things we were promised...The Last Emperor 20th Anniversary, for example. In Criterion's favour, they never exactly promised that for sure by the end of the year.

Next year, we have plenty to look forward to.

Agreed. Seventh Seal is such an early title, it was begging for a new edition- this would have been the perfect opportunity.

I may grab the Bergman set, haven't picked any of his Criterion DVDs up yet.
