I'll most likely be picking up the Bergman set.

The only one that I thought would be out in December would be Salo, since they always rerelease one film in December. But it looks like they went with the Bergman set, which I think was put together way to fast since I heard that they were working on a rerelease of Seventh Seal. At least were getting Two-Lane, which looks to be a great release. I bet January will be a big month for Criterion since in the past have about 4 to 5 releases that come out that month.

Maybe the POINT of the Bergman set is to clear out some stock of "Seventh Seal" in anticipation of a re-release in a year or so. See also, the Akira Kurosawa Four Samurai Classics set.
What I really don't understand is, how the heck do so many of you not own Seventh Seal yet? Why the wait?!?!

However, if Criterion does re-release this I may have to pass in favor of the Blu-ray release.

Where's The Last Emperor? Another thread mentioned it was to be a Criterion release in Fall 2007.
Also, while I don't buy as many Criterions as I use to because the more recent titles released are more obscure to me, December is a let down. With the exception of The Virgin Spring, I already have the other three Bergman titles already released.

So much for Pierret le Fou, Salo, or a Seventh Seal SE.

Think we'll be getting The Darjeeling Limited Next year?
That is Fox searchlight and the past 3 anderson films to get the Criterion treatment were Touchstone/BVHE so I'm a little worried about it....
I really dont care to much as long as we get great special features but i doubt Fox will give us the quality artwork and Booklets we get from CC

The new newsletter up. The clue of the month is for another Paramount film, The Naked Prey! It sounds like another fun B-Movie in the vein of Robinson Crusoe On Mars. Has anyone here seen it?
From IMDB:
A group of men are on safari. One of the party refuses to give a gift to a tribe they encounter. The tribe is offended, seizes the party, and one-by-one, kills all but one of the safari members in various creative and horrifying ways. The last surviving member is given "The Lion's Chance" by the tribal leader to be hunted down by a party of tribal warriors. Naked and weaponless he is set loose, the hunters hot on his heels, beginning a life-or-death hunt through wild Africa.

When this box comes out it should be about $64.97 since the Doniel box is also an msrp of $99.95 and then you could use the $5 off $50 coupon to make it $59.97. Or get it during their infamous 20% off sale for $51.99.

It's nothing like Robinson Crusoe on Mars. Rather, think of it as Apocalypto set in Africa... minus the gore.

They couldn't get JT to do an interview, and there's nothing in the Beach Boys vaults with Dennis talking about the movie?? I remember on the commentary they said the holdup over it being released on DVD was due to the soundtrack.
