Yep. Put the X-Files on HD DVD or Blu-ray and we'll have more enthusiasm.

tvshowsondvd.com has the first hi res pictures of the packaging for this boxset.

The packaging looks very very nice, but I'm still having a hard time deciding between picking up this box or just getting the individual seasons when their on sale for $20...
|
Cool packaging. It looks like the digipaks are all new, with black oil on the sides. Neat.

I don't know if I should keep the movie I have already or just go ahead and sell it in preparation... although I'll probably only get like $2 back, so it might be better to just keep it and wait and see...

I decided I'm definitely going to splurge on this. I'm selling off my old sets on eBay and figured that with the money from that combined with it hopefully been out in time for the DD sale (providing of course they have one), then I probably won't be out of pocket too much, and it'll be worth it to me.
I finally finished up Season 9 last week and had the urge to go back to the first season and start over since its been a few years since I watched those particular episodes. So, I think I'll hold off for the new release now. |
Is it me or Season 1 just not very good at all?
I've been a big fan of X-files for years and i guess i never saw Season 1, i think i started watching Season 2 when it aired when i was 15 or 16 i believe and i've loved it ever since. So now that the seasons are only 20$ i decided to buy them, so me and my girlfriend started watching season 1 not too long ago and WOW, watching these episodes i don't even know WHY i loved X-files so much. They're all pretty bad. I'm up to Episode 13 or 14 i think. Is it because there isn't not season long story arc yet? Maybe but i remember in later seasons even the filler 'monster of the week' type episodes were better and stronger than these ones. Even the ones written by Chris Carter are bad, which shouldn't happen! When the creator decides to write the episode it should be one of the best of the seasons (see Joss Whedon). I just can't wait to get through season 1 and finally get to season 2 which i think if i remember correctly was pretty good! |
Season One has some truly classic episodes. The show is still coming into its own, so there's some things off. But overall, it's a classic season.
|
Nice, but I will wait for further price drops on this. At some point it'll be $100 or less. What's another year or two of waiting? :)
|
Heh, I remember when I paid about $100 for each season. Back in the days of $10-off Amazon coupons.

While the show was clearly still trying to find its footing, I thought that Season 1 had a lot of great episodes. |
Season one does have some very weak episodes (Jersey Devil, Space, Gender bender) but Beyond the Sea is amazing and other episode like Ice, Squueze, and Tooms are some of the best "monster-of-the-week" episodes of the series.
|
I still remember the day my friend called me to tell me that the Seasons were on sale for $64.99 (I'm referring to the original sets.) I had purchased them for $114.99 a week or two before and hadn't opened them because I was watching a season I already owned. I took all of the expensive ones back, re-bought them and saved $250!

Hey I liked Genderbender.
|
I only cared for the mythology episodes. I didn't really care for monster-of-the-week shows. I have the mythology sets along with the movie. This seems like a really nice set, but I have what I want.
|
anyone get a copy today and care to share pics? i saw the set in-stores today... looks pretty nice. pretty space-saving and it's nice how there's new disc artwork to match. i'm kinda interested to see the movie poster. did they just fold it up and stick it in there?
|
Pretty pissed off at Amazon...still haven't even shipped mine.
|
Anybody get this.....??????
SO, are all the commentaries and other extras from BOTH the Regular Collector's Edition box sets AND the Mythology Sets on this Complete Collection? |

It shipped today. I'm even more pissed now, though...one of their reps emailed me this morning, and assured me it was shipped yesterday and would arrive today, despite the fact that my card hadn't been charged and that there was no tracking #. I ordered two of them, one as a birthday present for someone, so I'm extremely pissed that Amazon didn't live up to their word.

I'm really torn on whether to get this. X-Files was my favorite TV show, for the first 5 or so seasons at least.
I own everything that has been released so far, the original 7 disc sets, the movie, the mythology sets. However, I just recently bought 3 of the mythology sets and can still return them for another few days. If all the commentaries and featurettes from the mythology sets are truly carried over, that $60 can be put towards this set. That combined with an easy $80 or more from selling all my older sets, makes this a no-brainer I guess. But only if that B&N deal is still working, and only if those commentaries are truly carried over. Anyone have it yet? Any reviews? None at this site yet. |
My order says it's coming UPS on Monday 11/12.
|
Man...the packaging for this set is awesome.
|
Can someone post some pictures of the inside?
|
Still can't find any reviews online.
Has anyone here received this? |
I'm still waiting for someone to post pics. I have one, but it's a Christmas present, so of course, I'm not allowed to open it. But I wanna see the inside. :)
|
I don't really need to see the inside, more hear it.
I will return/sell my mythology and season sets if all the audio commentaries are carried over. |
no soup for u!
|
I saw the box at costco today... It's pretty much the same size as a standard shoe box. But it seems pretty sturdy and cool. But for $220 I can't see paying for it - especially since I already have the first three seasons.
But I've decided I'm not going to buy any more seasons and hope that a blu-ray is on the horizon, since I've been hearing rumors about Buffy & Angel supposedly going blu-ray next christmas (there was a Joss Whedon interview in Variety I think about him spending some of his free time due to the strick looking for deleted scenes and recording more commentaries). |
I don't have the Mythology sets...but I can tell you that the season discs are identical to the original digipak discs. There's one bonus disc, but I don't know what's on it...it just says "Special Features".

And then you could quickly check those episodes in your ultimate set to see if they have commentary tracks on them. Let me go look it up. |
Before abrg923 repeats himself, I heard that the discs in this set have new disc artwork. So perhaps they are not actually those old, original discs.
A list of the Mythology commentaries and episodes would be nice. |
Here are three. We'd love anyone who could check for us.
"Talitha Cumi" with R.W. Goodwin, "Memento Mori" with Rob Bowman, and "Max" with Kim Manners. See, one press release claimed that these audio commentaries would be included. But that would require remastering, so some of us doubt that they are really included. If they are not included, many of us completest types will keep the mythology sets. I have 48 hours before my return window on them expires, so no hurry... :) |
