"The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection Volume 2” set will include DR. CYCLOPS, THE DEADLY MANTIS, THE LAND UNKNOWN, THE LEECH WOMAN and CULT OF THE COBRA and see a September 11 release date. Both sets will be exclusive to Best Buy stores and the Best Buy website, and they will retail for around $20 a piece.

Definitely looking forward to the new sci-fi set; oddly enough, I've never been able to get into horror movies from this era, though.

Can't wait for the Horror set, but once again I find nothing interesting in that Sci-Fi set other than good MST3K foder.

It's somewhat interesting that they are calling it "Volume 2" when volume 1 is no longer available. Yes, it is Volume 2, but it makes me wonder what the chances are that Universal may print up more of Volume 1 to co-sell with this new release.

I'm hoping this Vol. 2 becomes as high-priced as Vol. 1 has, then I can buy plenty of copies to pay my monthly bills. But seriously, I'll be buying both of these sets. I can't have Vol. 1 and not get Vol. 2.

I wouldn't get too worked up about this. Volume 2 simply signifies that it belongs in the series. Lots of examples of subsequent volumes being created while earlier ones stayed out of print. MST3k anyone? Of course if they were smart, they would create more copies. There's really no reason to limit the availability of The Mole People.

Mod note: I changed the title a bit since it looks like you wanted to focus on the release itself and not necessarily just the cover art. If I'm wrong let me know and I'll change it back, and move it to the more appropriate forum

I suspect Vol 1 will eventually be re-released as a non-bestbuy exclusive, just like some of the MGM Midnite Movies Double-Features were. It hasn't even been a year yet since Vol 1 came out. I'll be buying both of these in any event.

Likely. The first sci-fi set disappeared quicker than most people expected, and started going for a premium on the secondary market. (At least last time I checked.)

If you have any interest in these sets, I'd show up at Best Buy during release week...

The first set was widely available for a long time at best buy and then amazon had it for a long time.

Thought I'd try one more time. Anyone have an idea of when The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection Volume 2 will be available for pre-order? I would think it should be soon, given that we're 3 weeks from the release date. Thanks!

I called the 888-best buy number today to see if they had ANY info, the guy I talked to had no information at all regarding when a pre order would be up. Looks like we just have to keep checking out the website.

Best Buy had the first set on shelves about 9 months before it was discontinued and Amazon even ended up selling them for a few months. Once they vanished though the demand increased quickly. Grab it early if you want it.

I don't see this one as being in demand if it goes OOP due to the quality of the titles. Has anyone here actually WATCHED the Deadly Mantis? *SHUDDER* I will still buy because these titles are good for a laugh. I deeply regret not buying a few extra copies of Classic Sci-Fi Collection 1 to hoarde, however.

On a side note, I ran across this while looking around on best buy.com - from guilty pleasures studios (?) "Midnight Movies Collection" (looks like they are going with a different spelling while getting the name recognition of the mgm series) for release on Sept. 4th. the movies this set has are:

The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1963)

The Thrill Killers (1965)

The Lemon Grove Kids Meet the Monsters (1966)

Rat Pfink a Boo-Boo (1966)

some interesting titles for those of us who like the old, low-budget drive-in flicks of long ago...here's the link
