Well folks, I just came back from Wal-mart. They had this DVD set and it was for $13.72 plus tax!!!!! It was in the Horror, not New release section, but it is an amazing deal for this new special edition. You guys should head over to your local Wal-mart ASAP.

I'm not sure if this has already been answered, but is there any extra on the Bluray that is not on the standard dvd? I was going to stick with regular dvd until this format war was over. But now we're starting to get more extras on HD-DVDs and Blurays than on DVD (Transformers, Close Encounters, etc).

Are there any screencap comparisons to the Superbit version online anywhere yet? I'm sure it's better, but I wanted to see by how much.

Having just looked at the first twenty five minutes of this DVD, this transfer is pretty much exactly like the Superbit version but cleaner and sharper. From my eyes (and I haven't watched the Superbit in a few years), it doesn't even remotely look drastically different. It looks like how I've always viewed Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Again, the image is sharper and much, much cleaner.

There are no additional Blu-Ray exclusive extras, though they are in hi-def on it.

I just seen this at my local FYE store, $24.99. The outer case looks very good. I almost bought it there. But I didn't buy it yet. I'm going to check out Wall Mart to see if it's at a lower price first, probably this weekend. Also checked out Best Buy and I didn't see it there. But i'll have it this weekend, just a matter of where to get it at.

FYE is always 20% more expensive than anywhere else.

The reds are more vibrant in the new transfer. And blues seemed to be toned down a bit ('cause the scene where Dracula laughs at the faltering Harker, it's very blue in the Superbit, but very dark, near black in the CE).

Personally, I wished they had retained the DTS track from the Superbit 'cause the DTS on Dracula is one of my five dts-audio testers.

I really want to get this Dracula 2-disc, but the price of it here in Canada (~ $26 plus tax), the fact that I already own the Superbit, and the fact that I've run out of space on my dvd shelf (where am I going to put my FF:Rise of the Silver Surfer steelbook?) is forcing me to lean toward waiting till it drops in price a bit.

I just finally finished the film and honestly, yeah, it's a tad darker and some colors have been toned down while others have been brighten. But, it's not the dramatic overhaul that's been mention on numerous forums.

I think I honestly prefer it this way compared to how it was represented on the last DVDs.

Well i couldn 't find it @ walmart. I even asked the lady and she looked @ me like i was crazy lol. I went to circuit city and found it there for $20 but i'm not spending 20$ it's not worth that much. I like the walmart price but it sure is hard to find it. I didn't see it @ best buy either.

Found it at mine in with the Halloween DVD display (right between the Sports DVDs and the New TV DVDs) for 13.72. It is not in the New Releases section. I did also notice that the $5 ones were removed from that section (Edward Scissorhands Anniversary Edition, etc.) were gone and not with the other $5 display.

I was also a little disappointed with the case (digipak w/slip cover).

Picked it up today at a Nashville Wal-Mart for $13.72 on a shelf with other horror titles, including the Legosi/Dracula and Karloff/Frankenstein Legacy 75th Anniversary Editions, also marked @ $13.72.

When I went to Wal-Mart today, I noticed that they shelved Dracula in their Halloween DVD section. Try looking for it there.

Thanks Matome. I decided to get it on dvd today. I love the artwork, the menus, the extras. But that packaging is really flimsy. I damaged it just opening it.

I bought what was apparently my Best Buy's only copy. I don't know if they'd had more earlier in the day (I got there after 5 pm) or not.

The image is a bit darker and the color balance is different, but neither is so dramatic on the standard def DVD as the BluRay screen caps would suggest. On the other hand, I have a 20 year old tube TV that can't be calibrated except very roughly with just brightness, contrast, and hue controls, so perhaps if I had a huge plasma or LCD set to proper parameters, it would have looked as dark and desaturated as the BluRay screen caps. Who knows? In any case, you can still clearly see the words of Harker's diary behind him as he explores the castle.

Has anyone else had any problems playing Chapter 17?

I have an Insignia NS-H4005 DVD/VHS/5.1 system that's played without a hitch, but whenever I try to skip to Ch. 17, it won't let me play it and starts back up at Chapter 18.

BUT the kicker is, it'll play flawlessly on the Mac computers I use to work.

Should I take it back to Best Buy or boil Dracula for 2 min?

I commented earlier in this thread that the Superbit was good enough for me, but after comparing that screencap, I don't know what to think. The extras alone may justify a double dip...

Those screen captures are drastically different. I'm not sure which I think is better -- or for that matter, which is more accurate to the original vision.

what someone needs to do is post some screencaptures from the Criterion laserdisc which is Coppola approved transfer, supposedly it mirrors the new SE.
