Bram Stoker's Dracula (Coppola) SE --> 10/2/07

Here's another one I found a pre-order date with some sparse info for on the Columbia House website. It gives the release date of 10/2/07 and is listed a 2 discs. Running time 2:08. Gives no art or special features yet. Anyone seen info on this at any sites around the 'net? I would consider a purchase pending supplements.

Oh please for the love of Christ RETAIN THE DTS TRACK!!!!

Dracula in DTS is one of the GREATEST DTS tracks I've ever heard.

Brent L 07-24-07 12:08 AM

Well it's about bloody time.

Davy Mack 07-24-07 05:51 AM

I just hope that for the BD that just ONCE, Sony (Columbia) includes all the extras that will be on the DVD.
I have a copy of all the criterion laserdisc supps though and commentary so I could live without it but there's no good excuse NOT to put it on the BD.

(I think the BD is scheduled for the UK already...)

edit: BD seems confirmed!!!!

COMING SOON / WORKS IN PROGRESS

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) New Enhanced Edition on DVD and Blu-ray Disc (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)
Francis Coppola
DVD Release: Fall, 2007

interesting tidbit from IMDB...

There were 38 different cuts of the film prior to its release. There are at least eight shots missing from the theatrical, video, and DVD versions. Criterion laserdisc version has extra footage...

Supposedly this will be an alternate cut, (longer...?) kind of like The Outsiders, Apocalypse Now Redux...)

This is an excerpt from actually a several year old chat with a zoetrope person...

"Can you tell us a little about what plans Zoetrope has for DVD? Some of the titles you are working on???
Kim Aubry: We are excited about the format...for us, this is a kind of departure. Our identity is really tied up in our film post production..we have recording studios and editing suites in San Francisco But now that we have build a DVD lab in our SF headquarters, we are applying our know how and our style to this opposite end of the business. We are in discussions with Criterion, Sony-Columbia, Paramount and a local SF label called Fantoma. Although nothing is inked yet, I believe our next DVD projects will include (for Paramount) The Conversation, Tucker, the Man and His Dream, as well as a new version of Bram Stoker's Dracula for Columbia..."

I'd love to see these scenes...!

What's wrong with the current Superbit?

Davy Mack 07-24-07 06:56 AM

bare bones

Very promising news...

Yavin 07-24-07 08:28 AM

Well, with it being an alternate cut of the film, I won't feel so bad double-dipping on it. Not that I wouldn't even if it wasn't.

Jaymole 07-24-07 08:41 AM

Up for pre-order at DVD Empire. Retail Price is $24.95.

hopefully the BluRay will trounce HDNet Movies airing of the movie - which I thought was very underwhelming.

tofferman 07-24-07 11:48 AM

For me, a double dip at worst is in order. If I end up going Hi Def format neutral by that time, then I'll definitely get the BD. Great news either way!

Davy Mack 07-24-07 01:50 PM

I REALLY hope that for ONCE, Sony gives the BD the extras too.
I don't want to have to buy both.

Yavin 07-26-07 01:18 PM

The artwork for this new 2-disc edition can be found at DVDEmpire.

It looks god-awful, and I hope it's just a placeholder, but if it's not ...

They should just stick to the original poster artwork and just add some fancy border around it or something. Drac covering his face in the 2-disc artwork is just plain silly, and the font for the title (while it may be film accurate I think) is just wrong. "Dracula" should be written in blood!

Rizor 07-26-07 01:20 PM

What the heck is that cover art? It looks more like the cover to some strange catalog!

Giles 07-26-07 01:22 PM

that has to the laziest art design for a DVD from a major studio - ever!

Yavin 07-26-07 01:25 PM

Yup, it's so bad that even Dracula has to cover his face because he can't bear to look at it.

Mondo Kane 07-26-07 01:33 PM

WTF? rotfl

Ol' Drac can't even look at it.

critterdvd 07-26-07 02:06 PM

You know I waited so long for this release, I actually think I'm kinda over it now. I own the Superbit, I think I'm gonna stick w/ it...

dvduser6 07-26-07 02:14 PM

Of course, I finally broke down and bought the bare-bones edition a few months ago. Figures. No big deal as it's one of my favorites. The cover art had better be a place holder as others have said. WTF?

fryinpan1 07-26-07 02:24 PM

I will definitely get the Blu-ray release, but that is one of the worst covers I have ever seen. It looks like some cheap independent studio's release.

fryinpan1 07-26-07 02:29 PM

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...s-dracula.html

The two-disc special edition will include a newly remastered anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track.

Extras will include a video introduction by Francis Ford Coppola, an audio commentary by Coppola, a documentary, deleted scenes, the trailer, and more.

islandclaws 07-26-07 02:30 PM

Awesome! I've been waiting for this SE for a looonngg time. New cut or not, these features alone are worth me re-buying the film. I hope they keep the DTS track as well.
