Ring of Honor is having a 20-25% off sale and a grab bag sale.

Any order under $75 qualifies for 20% off before shipping (use code aug20 at checkout), $75 or more lets you get 25% off with the code aug25.

This will be the last weekend for the Ring of Honor DVD grab bags. For $14.95, you get 5 random DVD's. These can be ROH shows, ROH Straight Shootin' or Best Of collections, Full Impact Pro, or any other DVD available on their site. After reading many favorable reviews of the bags, I ordered 6 of them, and with the 25% discount everything came to $77.23 after shipping. That's about $2.50 per title, not a bad deal!

I placed an order for 3 grab bags along with ROH: Respect is Earned, ROH: Domination, ROH: United We Stand and TNA: Slammiversary 2007. Came to under $100...not bad at all.

I've heard so many good things about Respect is Earned.... I might place another order and pick that one up and the rest of the Fifth Year Festival series.

I've pretty much given up on ordering new TNA DVD's. Mainly because the quality of matches is rarely worth the $20... but also because I know that eventually they'll be added on to some sort of "Deal of the Day" on TNA's site. I believe I've picked up all my TNA shows through one sort of a deal or another there, and the most I spent on any one title was $6.

EdTheRipper 08-18-07 05:53 PM

The thing with me is, I'm so far away from watching any of the latest ROH shows that it's not even funny. I keep ordering the latest shows as they're released so that I don't have to hunt them down later.

I still grab the TNA discs. I usually just got them through the ROH sales though. $14.95 for this newest one plus 25% off isn't bad at all. Worst comes to worst and the show really sucks, I can always swap it with a friend.

I've been picking them up as I need them, and watching it from the beginning. I'm on Weekend of Champions night 2 (which is the 102nd show, I believe, and they're on 158 or so). I started by buying the first year (back then only Wrestlerave was out of print), and any $10 show that I needed. I think I have another 10 shows before I need to buy some more, and the last 4 that I have were newly added to the $10 sales, so hopefully my next batch will be $10 each.

EdTheRipper 08-19-07 06:02 AM

I started picking the discs up back in April and have managed to pick up every show released. Wrestlerave is the one show that I don't have a legit copy of, instead I'm settling for an alternative method of owning it.

As for watching the shows, I started with the first one and I'm currently at ROH/IWA: Frontiers of Honor. I've been averaging about 3 shows watched per week.

Aces_High 08-19-07 06:08 AM

Those "Grab Bag" DVD specials at ROH's store, are the ROH Show DVD's? Or are they any random wrestling DVD from their store?

I'd like to get into ROH on a regular basis, but it's tough enough to just keep up with all the WWE & TNA DVDs as is. If I were to grab a show or 2 from ROH which would you recommend?

EdTheRipper 08-19-07 06:14 AM

The grab bags are random wrestling dvds. On the ROH boards, most people are reporting that they've received some shoot interviews, some Best Of's and discs from assorted promotions. I've seen some mention a TNA show or two and some mentioned some WWE proramming.

I haven't gotten this far into viewing the shows yet but a few of the more highly recommended shows I've seen suggested are All-Star Extravaganza III and Good Times, Great Memories.

I need Wrestlerave, ROH Gold, New Frontiers and A Night of Tribute.

Bah... after you watch ROH, you might just give up on WWE and TNA! :)

As for suggested shows, Good Times Great Memories (Chicago Ridge, IL 4/28/07) has been said to be the show to get if you're a fan of tag team wrestling, as the Briscoes vs. Shelly & Sabin match was off the charts.

If you like a good singles match, you should pick up Joe vs. Punk 2 (Joe vs. Punk II- Chicago Ridge, IL 10/16/04), as that's probably the best match of their 3 match series (all the matches were great). You also get the brutal Alex Shelly vs. Jimmy Jacobs "I Quit" match.

I managed to get Gold and New Frontiers from Highspots.com. I would never recommend buying from them after the issues I've encountered with them recently but you can check the site from time to time to see if they might get them back in. As for A Night of Tribute, that's my most recent eBay score. A seller I've dealt with in the past messaged me to inform me that he had it so I jumped right on it. Should be here any day now.

Last night I picked up WWE Vengeance 2007 dvd from a used dvd store for $6.99. I could not believe I got it that cheap.

deto 08-19-07 01:19 PM

I used to recommend them very highly until recently. I made a thread about the issues I've had with them of late.

Must be someone with a similar name because I've never sold on eBay before. I have gotten some strange e-mails that I thought were spam from someone with the username keepithandsome though. Strange stuff.

deto 08-19-07 03:32 PM

haha... and i just read your thread on highspots. that's pretty messed up, thanks for the heads up on ordering out of stock and pre-ordered items. and that email, they sent someone along the lines of "your business will not be missed around here" regarding the Benoit e-mail was rather tasteless, but i don't think dude should hae e-mailed them about it in the first place.

I really wanna jump on this deal, but I think I'm going to wait and see what they have at the merchandise table this saturday. They usually carry over their deals from online. I know I wanna get the last two new york shows I was there for and various other dvd's. I might just order a grab bag for the hell of it.

Edit...

I'm in for 2 grab bags

I personally would recommend Glory By Honor V night 2. The show is awesome top to bottom, and the main event is the best singles match in company history, in my opinion.

I read somewhere that Circuit City has an exclusive 3 DVD pack with Summerslam 2004, 2005 and 2006 for $16.99.

rvd1083 08-19-07 05:22 PM

Going through the Sunday ads and found 2 items that are worth mentioning.

Circuit City has a Summerslam 3 DVD exclusive set for $15.99. From the picture it includes Summerslam 06 & 05. The 3rd DVD isn't shown in the picture, but it would probably be Summerslam 04.

Kmart also has an exclusive Great American Bash bundle of GAB 06 & 07 for $14.99.

According to Sunday's ad, it's actually $15.99. Too bad we own all three already..

sg2386 08-19-07 05:40 PM

someone here posted that Summerslam 2007 will have Tin Edition like WM23. Hope that is true.

You know what really grinds my gears? When they do stuff like this for discs that I have already. They were good shows, so I would recommend this deal.
