In this case we know that the director's cut is longer because Fincher has commented on making the film shorter for its theatrical release to appease the studio but there are several examples of director's cuts that are shorter than their earlier theatrical releases.

I find it kind-of interesting that they would advertise the Director's Cut on the theatrical DVD. I wonder if the director's cut is going to be drastically different i.e. LOTR extended editions.
That being said, I'm definitely gonna give the theatrical cut a rental (or check-out).

I don't want to wait for the SE because this movie is so good, so it's very tempting to double-dip. I think I might try to show some restraint for once, though, and just Netflix the barebones.

Good plan--I am STILL waiting for the Adaptation SE!

I will turn the barebones disc into DVD Planet for store credit or circulate it among my friends when the DC comes out. let's face it -- I won't care about the theatrical version anymore.

A.) Anticipation
or
B.) Optimism
Fincher is one director I can afford to be optimistic about. I'm anticipating greatness.
