I found it in the walmart bin sometime ago. Its an HBO thing so I doubt Criterion will be releasing it any time soon.

im_ryandick 07-06-07 06:09 PM

go ahead and pick it up then?

hows the transfer?
WS / FS?
extras?

Peep 07-06-07 07:08 PM

Well, it's FS, but it's a great movie and it has a GREAT John Waters commentary. Get it while you can. If HBO didn't license it to New Line as part of their John Waters' collection, It doubt it will ever get a re-release.

It's widescreen, not FS.

marty888 07-07-07 08:16 AM

Yes, definitely widescreen. Grab it!

Sparrow 07-07-07 08:29 AM

One of my favorite Waters' movies, if not my favorite. Definitely pick it up!

mcharro3 07-07-07 09:52 AM

The disc isn't anamorphic, though, if I remember right.

I can confirm that. I just popped my copy in the player. It is non-anamorphic widescreen.

cultshock 07-07-07 10:56 AM

Yeah, too bad it's not anamorphic, but I picked it up at Walmart for less than 5 bucks. Worth the price (and then some) just for Waters' commentary (he does a great job as usual).

vedderone 07-07-07 01:28 PM

I bought this at best buy several years ago for about $5 and was lucky enough to meet john waters a few months back and had him autograph it as well as cry baby, hairspray, pecker, and pink flamingos

netphemera 07-07-07 01:46 PM

It's been out of print for a while now, however the price has been somewhat stable. I would recommend grabbing one now.

TheKing 07-08-07 02:19 PM

While the transfer is non-anamorphic, it's also 1.66:1, and its fairly common practice to not encode them in anamorphic. Some companies do, I have at least 3 DVDs that do, but I have more that don't.

It's still a good release, snapper and all...

paulringodaman 07-08-07 02:30 PM

Amazing movie...worth buying even if not anamorphic

LiquidSky 07-09-07 07:14 AM

Serial Mom has always been one of my favorite black comedies of all time. I just recently rewatched it and was upset that it's not 16x9. The most promising aspect of it being OOP is that a new SE should be around the corner at some point.

islandclaws 01-22-08 06:03 PM

Fuck yea. All over this one. Might be my favorite black comedy of all time.

haleyxvader 01-22-08 09:06 PM

One of my favorite movies of all times, and def one of John Water's top films. Pick it up, who knows when this will get re released.

Edit: apparently soon, looks like ill be picking up the new version

if that's right, there will be 40 minutes of additional scenes. Sold!

Who am I kidding, I love this movie so much, I'll probably buy it either way.

Rob

Peep 01-23-08 02:12 AM

I think 135 was a typo. Probably should have been 1:35 - which would mean maybe a couple of extra minutes.

mikelowry 01-23-08 05:59 AM

Saw this ages ago and definitely enjoyed it. Grab it!

zombeaner 01-23-08 07:27 AM

Apparently this features a commentary by Kathleen Turner and Herschell Gordon Lewis. Although I don't know if they are on the same commentary track or not.

conscience 01-23-08 08:25 AM

I love this movie! Kathleen Turner is a riot and I love the courtroom scenes.

Will definitely make a purchase.

I bought a copy on ebay as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend, and it never came. I kind of figured this might happen.

Although I'd hate to give up the Waters commentary on the original release.

Why give it up? At about $5 for the original release, why not keep both versions on the double-dip? :scratch2:

That's my point. I'd hate to have to keep my old version, but I would.

My preference is to junk the discs which I replace.

RobCA 02-08-08 02:00 AM

Here are the extras, according to TLA Video:

• Audio commentary with John Waters and Kathleen Turner
• Audio commentary with John Waters
• Featurette (Serial Mom: Surreal Moments)
• Featurette (The Kings of Gore: Herschell Gordon Lewis & David Friedman)
• Featurette (The Making of Serial Mom)

...and according to them, it will be anamorphic.

With those special features I'm in!!!

mickey65 02-08-08 05:24 AM

No deleted scenes? I'm not...

MadCow666 02-08-08 02:20 PM

I really thought I was the only one who loved this movie. Everyone I ever mention this too has no clue what i'm talking about... I'm in for a double dip though I wish it was coming on HD-DVD...

could've been worse..

Zen Peckinpah 03-06-08 09:04 PM

I've been on a John Waters roll lately, can't wait to watch this. The premise kills me.

wlverinefactor 03-06-08 10:52 PM

I loved this film. Need to add it to my collection at some point.

Nth Power 03-06-08 11:23 PM

Awesome news! It'll be anamorphic and I can finally get rid of that snapper!
