Occasionally, when you watch an older film like Lawrence of Arabia you are treated to an overture in the beginning. Do you listen to the whole thing or fast forward through it?

Being that I don't have that many, and to the fact that I ALWAYS listen to 2001's, I'd have to vote yes.

Once upon a time going to a movie like this was like going to the theatre. It was an Event. People dressed up and behaved themselves.

I yearn for those days, which will only ever exist again in my own home (except for the dressing up and behaving part).

So yeah, I listen to the Overtures, and when the Intermission comes I go make myself a gin and tonic and put five bucks in the cookie jar, then listen to the entr'acte music too.

Another Must-Listen overture is Star Trek: The Motion Picture. That piece is just beautiful. Really gets you in the mood for exploring the galaxy where no man has gone before and all that.

Same here but most of the times I just let it run and fix a drink or grab something to eat.

Overtures are kind of like fight songs before the "big game". They're a lot of fun and, at times, beautiful to listen to. Plus, they fuel the adrenaline and demeanor going into a film.

I don't know why anyone would bother watching something at all if they are going to fast forward over parts of it. I would rather just do something else.

Totally agree. I can't also understand people leaving theater when credits start to roll. 1. There's lot of interesting information there; 2. There may be some scene waiting afterwards; 3. Music adds a lot to the feeling and mood of the movie; 4. Some credits are just spectacular like for example in "300".

Always listen to the overture, it adds to the overall movie experience. I also stay for the credits to finish in hopes that there will be something at the end.

It really depends on the overture. But I usually listen to them. I love the one for 2001. I never ever skip over that.

If nothing else is happening on screen, then FF.
If the music was not made specifically with the movie in mind, then FF.

I love overtures. A big recent disappointment for me was when they removed the Kingdom of Heaven DC overture from the Blu-ray release .

I ALWAYS listen to Ben-Hur's. It gets me in the mood
