i know, the only sequel i bought was Lion King 2. but i'm guessing the rest were purchased by families for their kids. right right? :)

Well I saw on IMDB that Little Mermaid 3 is supposedly coming out next year. Now let's see if it still does...

I held out. No DTV sequels on my shelves... until two weeks ago. Got Leroy and Stitch for $3 used at the video store. So technically Disney didn't see that money from me. :)

There's a lot of bitching towards Disney in this thread. I didn't realize that it was a law that you HAD to buy and watch Disney sequels. Don't blame Disney for this situation, blame free market economy and parents that don't know how to say the word "no."

I think most of us are really Disney fans and hate to see the artistry the studio has been known for dumbed down for a simple cash-in. I think you misunderstand us. I personally love Disney films and want to see their talent directed toward quality (not quantity) animation. If we weren't fans we wouldn't care.

which is why John Lassetter is my hero. he truly understands this even if it means scrapping all those expensive projects. now he can take those talented artists and make them work on original material. ^^

It's not hard to understand. Scrap the shit and focus on making better stuff. Anyone who knows anything about Disney knows they were never about the quick buck until Eisner showed up. Sure they market the hell out of their properties, but never out-and-out-produced shit just for the sake of selling merchandise(see quote above). Now that he is gone, Jobs and Lasseter are making a valiant effort to return Disney to form.

I thought I heard about this awhile ago along with Lasseter canning the progress on the non-Pixar Toy Story 3. Great work from Lasseter and Jobs though. I bet Roy is pretty happy right now.

But this makes me wonder...will the sequels from the last 15 years be locked up in the Disney Vault or will they themselves still be sold?

Many of sequels are already in the "vault" and now I doubt they will be coming back.

And that my friends is IMO a good thing. Most of them were quite a reputation killer.

There may be hope for Disney yet. It will take them awhile to get the stink of Eisner off the company though.

Agreed, Shrek 3 should have been straight to video. I put it on par with the Return of Jafar (which was terrible IMH).

I do agree that The Lion King II was very good.

Cinderella 2 may have stunk, but I made a killing off of it on Ebay a few months back.

I am not a big fan of these DTV sequels, but as most of them either have or will go "back to the vault", I have had good luck buying them and then selling them later. Even if they are bad, they do not depreciate much.

Ins't that the truth. I sold my first "Limited Issue" non-anomorphic Lion King II release and paid for both the new version of the first movie and the sequel and still had money left over.

I think Bambi II is getting big money now from people who just have to have it. But I actually like that one and will be keeping it.

It will be interesting to see if these sequels will ever be re-released in the future or continuing the rise in ebay prices.

I have personally never seen one but have had the opinion that it cheapened the brand.

So yeah Lassater is my hero too.

But at the same time I don't feel like any direct to video/dvd sequels of the 90s movies were harmful to the brand. While most of the 90s movies are enjoyable, I just dont feel they are in the same league as Snow White. Peter Pan, Cinderella etc.

When I asked my 10-year old daughter earlier this year to purge some of the dvd's that I had bought for her (we agreed to trim down the family dvd collection), she requested that I sell nearly every direct-to-video dvd from Disney. I was glad to and sold a few on Ebay for a nice profit, as Disney had placed them into their "vault."

While I admire this move, I truly doubt this means we will be seeing quality animated films again. At least not for awhile.

John Lasseter continues to impress me.

According to a variety article, They still plan to release the little mermaid 3, which will be the last if not one of the last "sequel" films. A revised tinkerbell movie will also be released. They also mentioned toy story 3 coming out in 2009.

Bambi II is not selling AT ALL. All copies are at $6 or $7 - I see them all the time in the used places. It must be a stinker.

Lion King 2 is not even making decent money. Now I've made a killing on Lion King in the last few months. I just pray to God that they don;t do away with the vault. Thanks to them I've made some $$$.

yes, but TS3 will be Pixar's child, so it (hopefully) will retain the story quality that Pixar has always put as priority.

Too bad, I liked most of the sequels.
