Halloween - Yet another re-release?

It's obvious an AB only promotion. So only the AB Halloween releases would have the ticket offer. I wish I picked up the H2/H3 double feature instead of wasting more money on the original film. Since despite it listing closed captions on the slip cover and keepcase. The dvd is the exact same disc as the older THX release! So no subtitles or captions are provided, which was extremely disappointing.
So I was debating whether to try and return the copy to Best Buy claiming it was defective, exhange for a new copy, and then return that later on and get a full refund. Since I know they don't give refunds for opened items(at least for cds and dvds). That could be a hassle though and a waste of gas.
On the plus side, the ticket was included inside the case as advertised. But I'm thinking since I couldn't get anything back selling it without the ticket. That would be pointless as well. So i'm willing to give up the free ticket. If someone wants to pay the sale price I paid for this dvd and shipping. PM me if interested.

you've brought up the subtitles and cc on other dvd's...just curious, but why is this so important?

This hot woman I am seeing is deaf. So obviously captions or subs need to be included to enjoy films together.
And since the packaging and all reviews claimed this release was CC. I had the hope that finally, the correct transfer would offer captions. And thus was let down in the end since that wasn't the case.

I'd pick up Halloween 5 (only halloween I don't have, mainly because it sucks) just for the movie cash, but the movie theater I go to is an independent theater, so i doubt i'll be able to use it there.

Universal owns II and III. They're not doing anything special this year, aside from releasing both together as a "double feature" disc.
I agree, though, that Halloween II desperately needs a special edition release. There's a radically different "TV version" that gets aired from time to time (recently on AMC) that would make a great supplement, in addition to director's commentary, etc.

Maybe you should just try returning it to Best Buy and explain what happened. You might get a reasonable CSR, what with the description on the box being incorrect and all.

Universal should sell the rights to 2 & 3 to Anchor Bay since they’re evidently not going to do anything with them special edition wise. At least Anchor Bay would give them a decent release and maybe we’d get a box set of 1-5. (That’d be the only way I'd ever own Halloween 3)

BTW, wasn't a commentary actually done for part II on the Universal disc, but was scrapped prior to release?

1. Halloween
2. Halloween II
3. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
4. Hallloween H20: 20 Years Later
5. Halloween 5
6. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
7. Halloween: Resurrection
8. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
That's also how IMDb has them rated as well. The two most hotly debated are probably III and 6. A lot of people really like the direction Part 6 took with the conspiracy and occult angles, but others think it was way too silly and overblown and got too far off track from being a traditional slasher flick. Because it was famously re-edited, there's still a lot of debate about how good it could have been if it hadn't been so chopped to pieces and thrown together on the fly. III is the most maligned by far, but personally I think unfairly so. I think for what it is, it's still a much better film than Parts 6 or 8.
As for a complete box set, that's highly unlikely. The rights to the various films are held by separate companies. Anchor Bay has home video distribution rights to 1, 4 & 5 (which are owned by Moustapha Akkad's heirs, I believe); Universal owns 2 & 3; and Dimension (Disney) owns 6, 7 & 8 (as well as the forthcoming Rob Zombie remake). In order for a box set to happen, two of those companies would have to agree to license their properties to a third, or else they'd have to agree to some sort of joint release. That almost never happens. The only real hope is that Universal might eventually license 2 & 3 to Anchor Bay since they don't seem to have too much interest in them and might see more profit in licensing them out. Then we could get a Parts 1-5 box set, and extras and deleted footage for 2 & 3. But even that's a bit of a pipe dream since Universal has ceased most (if not all) of their major licensing to independent and budget companies in North America.

I've lost hope that Halloween II will ever get a decent upgrade thus I went to Best Buy today and paid the 10 bucks for the II and III double pack. The completist in me is now happy.

As many say that they don't appreciate "or like" H20 because of its WB/Screamness, I kinda think thats the reason that so many people indeed like the film. I will completely be truthful and say that I am part of the WB generation yadda yadda, but I think that H20 and 2 easily tie for the second best pictures in the series.
Although I think its kinda funny because I talk to some of my friends about the upcoming remake and their all like "ooh that's the one with the girl from Dawson's Creek" and when I explain that H20 is infact the seventh movie they don't believe me, they think its the second, or maybe third at most...

Anchor Bay ripoff taken to the next level...
I too was suckered into buying the new Halloween version at Best Buy because it's basically free with the movie ticket inside.
Yes, I can confirm that the movie cash is inside the sealed DVD case, but something more disturbing awaited me when I saw the disc. While the outer box and the DVD case artwork list a catalog # of DV15428, the disc itself says DV10896.
DV10896 is the old release from 1999, so Anchor Bay didn't even go to the trouble of re-pressing this - they are just throwing these leftover discs inside "new" packaging with a copyright date of 2007.
Can anyone else who bought this confirm the catalog # mismatch between the disc and the box art?

I prefer to refer to it as 'John Carpenter's Season of the Witch', which is what I think it should be renamed.
Halloween
Halloween II
Halloween 4
Halloween III
Halloween: H20 (count me in as one of the anti-WB/Scream people here)
Halloween: Resurrection
Halloween 5 (the whole psychic angle really killed it for me)
Halloween 6 (even the Producer's Cut sucks, imo)

Ranking aside, (and im trying to catch up on Halloween history) but didnt H20 take 4,5,and 6, out of canon? Like its I, II, H20, and Ressurection?
