that slipcover was a piece of junk. it was touted as some ultra-cool light-up/3D cover and all it is is this like metallic looking nothing. i saw it at Target and couldn't believe this was the new cover. this is truly one of those capitalize on the new movie/marketing schemes that adds nothing new to the DVD itself that is a total waste.

I'm passing on this release. I already have the Limited Edition and the 25th Anniversary Edition.

Interesting comment, one I have never seen before. Everything I have previously read says the opposite. That the previous DVD's were more accurate color wise.

I totally agree. New slipcover looked real shitty. I thought the eyes were supposed to light up or something, but no. It had this awful cheap-looking checker-board texture to it, also.

This makes no sense since AB is not releasing the remake. So how does the free ticket offer work?

And the back cover has the closed caption logo, while the original issue of this dvd lacks captions. Can anyone verify that the new release is closed captioned or not? I'd like to pick it up,if that were the case.

And the person who claims the previous "Divimax" transfer is the 'correct transfer' must have their information mixed up. Since no one knows exactly how it looked in theaters today. Nor do many people a copy of the print and can attempt to find out. But since Cundey knows how the film is supposed to look. I'm sure his transfer is the correct transfer, and how it originally looked in theaters. At the very least,it probably resembled his transfer more closely than the 'divimax' transfer.

I doubt it had anything to do with 'revision' and 'trying to make the budget look bigger'. All it did was give the film the appearance of being fall. And the 'brownish leaves/grass' and 'dim daylight' seem more closer to how I remember the film over the years. Than the excessively bright green leaves and grass in the 'divimax' transfer which is all bright and sunny looking.

You are correct, cardaway. The previous Anchor Bay DVD's had the correct color-timing as approved by Dean Cundey. The transfer on the 25th Anniversary Edition was not done with his, or John Carpenter's, input and is noticeably different from all other previous home video releases. They re-timed it to make it look more realistic and have more visual "pop", however this ran contrary to the artistic vision of Carpenter & Cundey who purposely wanted a more muted, dreary tone both for thematic sake and to try and disguise the fact that the film was not shot in the Fall like it's supposed to be in the film, but rather the Spring. Therefore most fans consider the transfer on the 25th AE to be revisionist and inaccurate.

I'm in exactly the same camp. I have the 1999 Anchor Bay DVD for the correct video presentation, the 25th Anniversary Edition for the commentary and other exclusive extras, the Extended Edition for the extra scenes, plus the 25 Years of Terror documentary. If Anchor Bay wants more of my money for Halloween then they need to repackage all of that into one nice, concise collector's set. A completely remastered transfer down-converted from HD and properly color-corrected, the Exended TV Cut presented via seamless branching, and several discs collecting all the various extras and the 25 Years of Terror doc all wrapped-up in a pretty little box. That's the only way I'll bite again any time soon.

Or something utilizing all that complete film/negative material they found in those boxes over a year ago.

If you check out http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....s&nrp=15&iht=n they have two variations of this new release. The one released today looks to have that crappy metallic cover while there is another one that is being released next Tuesday which has the glow-in-the-dark eyes. At least that's what BestBuy is showing me...

I plan on picking up the Blu-ray on Oct. 2, and I swear this will be the *last* version of this movie I am ever going to purchase... This series is almost as bad as Evil Dead with its multiple releases.

Yeah, that looks pretty cool. It looks like the sticker on it says "Best Buy Exclusive"

Heads up to those looking to fill some holes in their Halloween collection or like to double-dip or want to start a Halloween collection, Best Buy will have:

Free Movie Cash for "Dimension's Halloween" w/ purchase of either Halloween (1-Disc) ($9.99), Halloween: 25 Years of Terror (2-Disc), Halloween 4 (Divimax), Halloween 5 (Divimax) (latter 3 being $12.99 each). $10.50 ticket value.

The titles should be in store now, but it's officially beginning the week of 8/19.

The Best Buy cover was sweet.

I was there and didn't even know they were re-releasing. I loved the cover and decided to buy it when i saw it came with movie cash.

I got it for free basically.

Well, perhaps I'll pick up 25 Years Of Terror. Not sure if I'll use the ticket (a remake of Halloween just doesn't sound good to me in the first place, let alone a remake done by Rob Zombie), but on sale for $12.99 doesn't sound too bad.

So which transfer does this one have? The Divimax or the earlier one? I only have the Divimax and plan on seeing the movie anyway so it will be like getting a dvd I don't have free with the movie. But I won't hassle with it if it's the Divimax transfer.

I have the Good Times releases of both movies. Are the Universal transfers any better? I think they are anamorphic, whereas the Good Times versions are not. But besides that... any difference?

For $9.99... I might just "take the pluge". I gotta go to BB anyway for the Psycho 3-pack.

Thanks for the heads up Shyguy.

I was hoping the Divimax 2-Disc would be part of that deal, since I wanted that extras disc.

Yes, they are better. Just the fact that they are anamorphic is improvement enough. Still no features, though.

All the other titles are Anchor Bay releases, so I doubt this Universal release is included in the promotion.

And, darthmaher: Yes, while the old Goodtimes transfers are decent, the Universal version is a big improvement. For the cost of the double-feature, it's a no-brainer if you like the films.

I just picked up the Halloween II / Halloween III Double Feature DVD. I figured that the price was right for this bare-bones release.

Can Anyone confirm that the Ticket is "Inside"? I just don't want to pick one up, only to find they have put them out seperatly next week.

Ad states that the ticket is "on-pack" so it should be inside the keepcase. Also, I haven't seen any Halloween tickets in their own packaging like the Superbad tickets/Transformers Concession Cash that they had in recent ads, so I would say it's a 99% certainty that they're inside.

Unfortunately, this is not shown in the ad, so it's highly unlikely it would be included.
