Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition Or The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection

I want to buy one of these sets. Seems like everybody is buying the ultimate instead of the Christopher Reeve set. DD has Ultimate for $55 after discount and Amazon has Christopher Reeve for $38......Is it worth extra $17 ??..Does the ultimate look so much better as a box set?..Or is it better to get all Amaray cases in cheaper set?

Thanks for your opinions

Get the Ultimate Collector's Edition; you'll be amazed at how much more bang for your buck that extra $17 can get you, especially if you're a fan of "Superman Returns".

If extras don't really interest you that much and you didn't dig Singer's flick, I guess you could pick up the Christopher Reeve set, but I wouldn't advise you to.

Something else to consider is that Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut isn't included in The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection.

The Ultimate set rivals some of the best sets in movie/DVD history. 2nd to maybe the Alien Quadrilogy. You get so much for so little it is almost stupid not to get it (if you are a fan and enjoy the movies and lore immensely that is).

I think I paid $40+ through Barnes and Noble. I mean that is such a freaking steal.

I think it'd be hard to not spend the extra $17 for the Ultimate Set, considering you also get:
The Richard Donner cut
Superman Returns 2-Disc
2 extras discs

If you order the Ultimate set, how will you know if it is the re-issued corrected set?

How is that techincally "ultimate"? Aren't they making another one as I type (Superman: The Man of Steel)?

I'm not that interested in the Donner cut cause I like to watch Superman II as I remember it, not an alternate frankenstein version of it.

So I got the Reeves set for $30 from DD (after discount). That's $7.50 per title. Can't beat that.

As for Superman Returns, I'm sure we'll see a "Superman Returns 1.5" or in a boxset with sequals. So I can wait.

You can when the Ultimate set comes out to around $3.00 per disc with some online places.

Another vote for Ultimate... It really makes no sense to get the Reeves set.

Plus the packaging is kickass!

Ultimate set is the way to go. I got mine from DD from their 20% off sale and it arrived in perfect shape with no dents. The only problem is there are some light scratches on the bonus disc for Superman 1, but still plays fine so I'm not worried about it. Now to find the time to watch it all.

I'd also vote for the Ultimate, I was lucky enough to get one through FYE for $35.

Thumbs down on the Christopher Reeve collection.

Huge Thumbs up for the Ultimate Edition!!! I bought this the day it came out and I still haven't had the time to go through the entire set. The set could easily take you several weeks to go through in it's entirety.

I got them both because of those two encoding issues (org-sound mix for superman the movie and part 3 screw-up).
