I stopped by Pentagon City today. Neither Borders nor Best Buy had ANY of the new genre releases today, not even The Fly Collection, which one would think would be a huge title. Best Buy did have their two exclusives--the Alien Nation Movie Collection and the Classic Sci-Fi Collection Vol. 2--but that's it.

I found a single copy of each From Beyond and RotLD at Fry's ($14) - snagged them both, so now they have none...

What's the deal here? All these stores have had many, many copies of far more obscure dvds throughout the years. What is it that makes these titles so under-ordered.

I drove all over the place today looking for the Vincent Price box set and Return of the Living Dead with absolutely no luck. Thank God, there were other things I was buying today or this would have been a complete bust. I'm gonna order those and the Fly Classic Collection right now.

Sure, I'd rather they carry everything, but that is not realistic thinking.

They carry what makes them money, and we can't blame them for that.
But they carry the new releases of Paul Naschy movies, the BCI Grindhouse double features, not to mention all the awful straight-to-video dreck that costs between 19.99-22.99. I just don't see how this stuff does better for them than the Midnight Movies and other stuff might have. Makes no sense.

I hit up my local CC, Borders and Target. Zilch, basically. I found one copy each of the new RotLD and the Price collection. Too bad I don't need (or want) either of them. I've got all but Witchfinder from the Price box and I'm not too interested in upgrading my RotLD disc. Oh, well, off to DVD Planet tomorrow it looks like.

The only two I could find at Borders today were the Vincent Price Collection and the new edition of Return of the Living Dead.

Nothing here in Fresno. Checked Best and CC because I knew that Target and Wal-Mart here weren't going to have them. Went to Rasputin and they didn't get all of their shipment for today. They did have From Beyond and that was it. They said they hoped that they would get the rest of the shipment in Thursday.

All they had was From Beyond at my Best buy. I just ordered The Burning from Target since BB and CC had it back ordered.

One thing I found that's a minor annoyance is that the of six I have received so far (three, more on the way) on all of the that wretched cellophane stuff they use to "protect" the case has been melted onto the plastic of the spine.

Sheesh, if they stopped using this stuff to "protect" the cases they would arrive in better condition.

At least they only have one security sticker and not three on each of 'em.

I ordered all mine online, $8.97 a pop.

I agree. You would think the MGM classics and the like would sell better than some of the dreck you mentioned.

I imagine they do studies based on past sales and decide what is best to carry on the shelves. I'd love to see the research/sales numbers.

I'm interested in Devils of Darkness/Witchcraft, but I haven't seen either of them. Are they B & W or color, and are both of them anamorphic widescreen on this release?

The MGM ones are flippers, the Fox ones are two discs.

With the $5 off coupon, they'd all be $5.30.

Par for the course with most Fox-distributed titles for the past couple of years. I don't know what the hell they do to melt that plastic on there... but it would be nice if they stopped.

Well, I had to turn Wed into a scavenger hunt, but I ended up getting the titles I wanted the most. I found Tales from the Crypt/Vault of Horror and Curse/Curse 2 at Fry's. Then I picked up From Beyond at DVD Planet. Finally, I scored The Burning and Scarecrows at Virgin Megastore. A little exhausting, but also fun. I love a good hunt for discs I badly want. It was stupid that I had to make all that effort, though. BB should have had this shit.

Ha! I just said practically the same thing on the From Beyond thread.

Hit up Rasputin today and they got there shipment in. They got 2 copys each of every one of the MGM/Fox Midnight Movies that came out on Tuesday, plus they had the Fly box set and the Price box set. I got Witchfinder, Tales/Vault, Chosen Survivors/Earth Dies Screamings, and House on Skull Mountain/Mephisto Waltz. I didn't get the Price box set since I had all the movies in the box, and the extra disc only runs an hour. No one put up a review of the box so I just got Witchfinder.

Why would you want a heavily edited version included as well? This is a fantastic release...

As stated in a DVDTalk Bargains thread, Amazon has a drive-in movie sale that's a bunch of older Midnite Movies for $8.49. The kicker is -- not listed on Amazon's sale pages are several of the brand new releases that are going for the same price! This includes the Tales from the Crypt/Vault of Horror double bill as well as Food of the Gods and a few others, but not all of them. Granted, this isn't big savings, but with the B&M stores letting us down and forcing many of us to go online, it's at least a small bonus for our trouble. I placed an order for a couple on 9/11 and just got my confirmation today. (That's what I get for selecing free super saving shipping.)
