Taxi Driver: Two-Disc Collector's Edition - August 14th

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/taxi-driver.html

Per DVD Active:

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a collector's edition of Taxi Driver which stars Robert DeNiro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, and Harvey Keitel. This two-disc limited edition will be available to own from the 14th August, and should retail at around $24.96. The disc will include a newly remastered 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include a video introduction by Martin Scorsese, an audio commentary by Writer Paul Schrader, a second commentary by Professor Robert Kolker, a Producing Taxi Driver featurette, a Martin Scorsese on Taxi Driver featurette, a Martin Scorsese Tribute featurette, and a Making Taxi Driver, God’s Lonely Man documentary. We've attached some early package artwork below - although it is still subject to change."

Artwork's posted there as well, and it's pretty darn nice.

A masterpiece.....and I like the artwork as well. I don't have the original release, but may have to get this version.

A must have. Although I wish Scorsese's commentary made its way onto this dvd (from the Criterion laser disc).

Great artwork, not what I've come to expect from $ony. Also a great candidate for an SE, and I'm glad this is not an "Extended Unrated Digitally Remastered Superbit Final Director's Cut Edition" or the "You Talkin' to Me? Edition". Definitely buying this, but if a Blu-ray gets announced I'll wait till I upgrade to HD.

This is getting really old not being able to secure the rights to the original Criterion commentaries.

I really hope they found the orignal negatives or used digital equipment to color correct the final shootout as the cinematopgrapher intended to do when they remastered the film the first time around. I want to see red blood not pink lemonade during the final scenes.

Yeah, but luckily there is a nice Fan Preservation DVD of it.... Who knows maybe in 20 years the HD-DVD will have the Criterion Commentary and Isolated Soundtrack.

Awesome. Add me to the list that's glad they never bought the first version. I kept wanting to, but kept telling myself this was such an obvious candidate for a special edition.

I agree. I mean, how much could Criterion possibly want for extras that are stuck on a format that's been dead for seven years.

This is one movie that I don't mind double dipping on. Can't wait for this release.
