Just finished the switch to DVD Spot. I'm loving the custom sort. I can finally have all 10 Friday the 13th movies in order.
Also, I submitted some info regarding a Hitchcock boxset I had that wasn't properly filled out in their database. Someone looked at my submission and updated the site in less than five minutes, increasing my title count by 16! I thought it would take a few days to look at... I couldn't believe how fast they did it. |
To everyone who's left DVDAf for DVD Spot: are you leaving your accounts open or did you think to fully cancel the Aficionado account? Seems to me the only way they'll truly see the negative effect of the 2.0 redesign is if a large number of people delete their accounts.

I've been on DVDSpot for awhile now. I have a little problem with the statistics. For example, I have 13 Nicolas Cage movies along with 13 Val Kilmer dvds. But only Val Kilmer shows up on my stats page.
Also, it would be nice if I could see more than just 20 actors/actresses and only 15 directors. |
Well, you can if you search for them by name. But I'd agree that it'd be nice if you could get a breakdown from the statistic page.

I left mine open. I figured if they ever actually get everything working, I'll check it out. But most likely I'll end up deleting it. |

Also, it would be nice if I could see more than just 20 actors/actresses and only 15 directors. When you search for an actor/director/producer in the regular search field, it lists all of their credits. For example, when you search for Nicolas Cage in your collection, it says you own 14 titles, but there's only 12 actually titles because Cage is credited as a Director or Producer on 2 of them. So that's why he's not showing up on your statistics page. If you search for his name in the Advanced Search for your collection as a Cast Member, it comes up with 12 (as shown above). I agree that I would also like more statistics. That's been requested too. There's a whole thread on the DVDSpot forums about feature suggestions. |

Once I'm done transitioning my collection (I'm on the Ps now), I'm going to send them an email as well, to delete my account and tell them exactly why I'm leaving.
|
my only gripe about the new DVDAf site is that you can't add titles that aren't in DVDAf's database - boo!!! (unless I'm looking in the wrong place)
and what's up with the Contact Center | Report a Problem links - they don't work... began a DVDSpot account today will try both for the next week or so. |
I've got a question about DVD Spot... now that I have all my titles saved, it doesn't look like they tell you which ones are OOP. I always liked that about DVDAF... my OOP titles said "Discontinued" next to them.
Is there any information on OOP titles on DVD Spot that I'm just missing? |
I like also how with some movies on DVDAF little bits of information on whether a longer version of the movie is available or cut, or this that or the other is mentioned - that was very helpful in purchasing imports.
|
adding discs to DVD Spot is a pain... they are really anal.

Luckily I'm only at a bit over 250, so I just grabbed them off the shelf in groups of 10-15 and typed in the UPC numbers. |
unfortunately my import UPC numbers don't work so I have to go through all the steps - ugh!
|
Yeah, that would suck. I don't have any imports.

All of the editors were and are contributors so we definitely understand any frustration in contributing and would like to minimize that, if not eliminate it altogether, and still to try to make things as efficient and accurate as possible. We welcome all feedback, suggestions, etc. http://www.dvdspot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3216 That thread attempts to list desired info in a field by field breakdown. Seems much more extensive than it really is as it lists things that are self-explanatory for the most part. To sum it up, omitting the most obvious ones. Really fairly straightforward once one gets the idea (atleast that is the goal so if your experince was different, please post feedback in the Spot forum so we can address it). - Use the DVD title rather than any alternate released title. - DVD Title Keywords should be based on the title(s) such as alternate spellings, official titles etc. rather than keywords based on genre/actors, etc. - Edition: edition info listed on the cover(s) such as SE, UE, etc and edition specific info not found on the covers placed in ( ) such as edited, etc. - Video Specs: List them in order of intended aspect ratio before any modified aspect ratios when multiple are present. - Audio Specs: list the original audio track(s) and language first in order of quality (loseless, DTS, DD, etc.), then alphabetically in order of language with commentaries and music only tracks after. - Producers: only Producers are listed (or Executive Producers for TV Series since they are typically the creative equivalent for them) - Cast: In IMDb credit order except in cases when they are listed alphabetically/in order of appearance and all of the principle/most worthy cast can't be listed in the available spots in which case attempt to list all of those cast members before any bit parts/lesser resumed cast. - Title List: list individual titles/episodes using the format listed in the field notes (Disc #: title / title). Additional titles must have an individual IMDb page, please include the link in an attached note, in order to qualify to be listed or a music video. Additional titles should be listed before music videos using the following format. Chronological then alphabetical with the title name then what it is (short, documentary, music video) and the year in ( ). For music videos, artist name - song (Music Video). Please limit the format desiginations used to short, documentary or music video for purposes of uniformity. Lastly, *only* link to a seperate release when it is the *exact* one linked to rather than just the same title. Otherwise, just list the title using the above format so as not to give the impression that it contains the release linked to rather than just the title. Definitely keep the feedback and suggestions coming. Everyone involved with editing, contributing, and trying to improve the database and site are all users like everyone else that use the site for their collections and just ended up volunteering to help run it. A couple of us try to keep an eye on this thread and lobby for things but consider posting thoughts in the Spot forums also. |

I'd never seen that site before. Very useful regarding OOP titles, thanks. This was really the only reason I was keeping DVDAF open, so I guess I'll go ahead and close it. |
Yep, add me to the ever growing list of people that have switched to DVDspot. I am really liking it actually. The rating system, filters, and desc of titles is great. Just wish I didn't add all those movies to my wishlist in DVDaf.

Hey, dvdaf has added some color! I can't read the text on the main headers since they are so dark but I like the alternating light blue added to the DVD entries. It's a start.

Also the most important feature of DVDProfiler for me is the ability to run and print out reports. You can easily print out a simple list of your titles with whatever format style you prefer. Unless DVDSpot or DVDAf has something like this, I don't think I could ever replace DVDProfiler. |

A strictly alphabetical order listing is pretty useless to me.
