Hot Topic is not for freaks, it is for suburban kids who wish with every fiber of their body that they were actual freaks.

Anyways, should you voice out your opinion about the remake of Battle Royale in Hollywood here is the appropriate thread for you.

Mod note: Agreed, please keep this thread focused on the current DVD release and the movie/remake.

I imported the R0 Tartan NTSC version a few years ago, back before I had a region free player, and I'd strongly recommend that one to anyone who's grounded in Region 1 (although like many others, I'd strongly suggest to go region free considering it literally opens up the whole world to you). PQ and audio are ok; here's the link to dvdbeaver's comparisons:

Girl I knew in high school had a homemade T-shirt that had the Hot Topic logo on the front and this on the back: "For the Discerning Poser"

1) Nothing will top the R2 LE tin of BR.

I believe it's the "special version"/DC.

given the ferocity of '28 Weeks Later' I think Juan Carlos Fresnadillo would do an excellent job.

Great. We'll have a remake with a bunch of wonderful ideas that never go anywhere.

As I've said before, the only place where a BR-remake should go is HBO as a mini-series. With what's been established with the story in the novel, the manga, and the original Japanese film -- there's enough material that can be expanded on and twisted to suit more of the American culture to fit a ten one-hour mini-series.

As much as I love the Japanese film -- I think a remake needs to grab the manga's insanity by the balls and take the novel's knack for character development.

Then, that version is easily topped by the original cut.

Except for the old "NTSC Version" R2-UK Tartan release, has there ever been another release of the original cut of "BR" on DVD?

Actually, this thread talks about a non-existant region 1 release, so the thread isn't on topic at all regardless of whether or not the remake is discussed.

Literally , YES the R1 is still nonexistent. However since Battle Royale was the related movie. The best option right now is the R0(Region Code Free) Wision Entertainment version.

Officialy sold at Hottopic and FYE.

But if remake is discussed... You, being an adult.. would you push trough inserting the topic here despite a link discussion related to the remake was shared.

Yup. The first official dvd, a 2001 HK release from Universe Laser, is the original cut. It has a full-bitrate dts track but is non-anamorphic. It came in both a R3 and a more rare R0 version that's found its way into some major u.s. retailers, such as FYE. (Ditto for the Universe release of Battle Royale II). The oop Tartan UK NTSC release was a huge improvement in both video and subtitles, though lacking the dts track.

Actually, no. Which would make my statement null since I do think the theatrical cut is superior. I think I just meant in terms of collectability/cool factor it's the release to have, especially if you're a hardcore fan like myself. I still prefer to watch my Tartan NTSC copy.

^that's the edition I got and am extremely happy with it.
I got it last year on ebay new for like $13 bucks shipped, so you might wanna check their first to see if you can get it cheaper.
But overall the DVD is great because there are tons of bonus features and they are english subtitled.

Me too. About 2 years ago, I stumbled across a copy at Ameoba in LA for 30 bucks. I decided not to pick it up and have been kicking myself ever since.

Actually, the tin release was rubbish, crammed unto a DVD-5 with questionable washed out PQ. It's the preceding Tartan 2-disc set to watch out for. Same extras as the tin, except the film's now spread across a DVD-9 as well as a Dts track. Comes in a standard 2-disc amaray and yes, it is the Dir Cut.

I vote for Tarantino. He's the one and only guy I could see actually making the film better. When I first saw BR, I immediately thought what an awesome Tarantino film it would make.

^picture is good, sound is great, subtitles are great (yellow but they are a good size; not too big like they sometimes tend to be), and there are over 100 minutes of subtitled extras including a 50 minute documentary.
