i have the first disc so watching the first 3 eps.

does the writing get any better after these first 3?

other then Dexter every one on the show is a badly written cliche'

a police captain who dislikes one of her officers for no reason and ignores all her leads despite how good they are.
constantly putting her down in front of all the other officers.
she doesnt do anything that is a smart move, how is she even the captain.

the officer is a typical as a vice cop fake hooker who wants to became a plainsclothes cop.

she eventually gets that from the cliche' DA or whatever he is, because her dad was a great cop.

of course now her captain hates her even more and has to tell the vice cop she is promoted in front of the DA type guy.

also the Da type guy is only interested in good press and his reputation.

the other cop is stereotypical parody like, bad action movie or tv show cop.
always keeping his eye on dexter and doesnt like dexter for no apparent reason.

the cursing is over done.
too much use of it that it also seems like a parody of bad cop action movies.

even the girlfriend is weak.
a guy comes and claims her ex husband owes him money for drugs he took so since the husband isnt there anymore he says give me your car.
so she just gives him the car.

Dexter was standing right there, he's cop isnt he.
he cant just flash his badge to scare him off.

i just dont get it.

the show is ok, just is poorly written.

also is the pq as bad on showtime as it is on te dvd.
looks soft and a bit blurry.

I just finished the first disc and absolutely love the show. Great Blind buy for anyone considering it.

I got the Wal*Mart exclusive bonus disc which included the first two episodes of Dexter & I thought it was excellently written & brilliantly acted by Michael C. Hall.

It’s one of the best “twists” on a crime drama I’ve seen in years & I can’t wait ti’ll next Tuesday to see the other 10 episodes of Dexter.

Got the whole thing off Itunes. Amazing show. Probably the best on TV. Does anybody know if we are getting a blu-ray release ala Weeds?

Weeds was a Lionsgate release, Dexter is Paramount. Paramount could release it on Blu-Ray, but since there is no tv product coming in the near future (with the exception of Star Trek on HD-DVD), I would be surprised if Dexter popped up anytime soon.

Isn't Paramount currently HD-DVD exclusive?

For any completist out there, there is this above bonus, and also a Showtime Sampler DVD from Best Buy that had an episode.

Nope, they're a dual supporter.

EDIT: THEY WERE. Now your comment is 100% correct, HD DVD exclusive.

Word of warning re: DVDs.

My review will be up soon, but one of the extras listed on the box was missing, and the majority of the extras are just promotion for Showtime (with the exception of the two quality commentaries and a short featurette on blood spatter.)

The series is great though.

For those interested, the Target exclusive bonus disc is a 60 minute Q&A session with the cast & creative team courtesy of the Museum of Television & Radio.

I know that sucks but this is such a great series that as long as the episodes are intact, it doesn’t bug me that they fu*ked up with forgetting too include an extra.

I picked it up for only $37.28 w/tax!!! Pretty cheap, hopefully this will attract more viewers & Dexter will be on for years to come. Can’t wait too read your review.

Just curious, does this disc have it's own place in the case, or is it one of those crappy paper sleeve ones?

It's disappointing that this release didn't get as much attention as I had hoped. It's a great show.

I've decided to take a pass on picking this up on SD due to the fact that I've seen the entire first season and would prefer that if I can't get value-add extras on SD, I'll just wait for the eventual BD release.

At this price point, I'll recommend the SD wholeheartedly to my friends.

I'm waiting on HD as well, but I told a few friends they should get it. Great show and I can't wait for Season 2.

Michael C. Hall plays Dexter brilliantly & he better be called an Emmy award ‘winning’ actor rather than an Emmy award ‘nominated’ actor very soon. He most definitely deserves it.

Wanted to wait for the HD, but I just couldn't ...the show is too damn good and is holding up equally as well on it's second viewing.
