Showgirls : Fully Exposed Edition ----> 7/17/07

From davisdvd.com:

Showgirls

MGM Home Entertainment will release Showgirls: Fully Exposed Edition on July 17th. This third go-around for director Paul Verhoeven's notorious camp "classic" will feature a 2.35 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Bonus materials include an audio commentary track, a trivia subtitle track, "A Showgirls Diary" and "The Greatest Movie Ever Made" featurettes, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and trailers. Retail is $19.99.
We get a third release of Showgirls, yet 1984 still OOP and Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring double feature is being re-release with non-anamorphic transfers. Hooray MGM!!!!

When I saw "Fully Exposed" I expected pics from Elizabeth Berkeley's gyno exam.

Is it? On the VIP DVD "The Greatest Movie Ever Made" is in reference to the commentary track and there are no featurettes included. Even the short 5 minute one from the 2000 non-anamorphic DVD is missing. I wish MGM would finally do Showgirls justice by giving us extras that matter: a commentary with Paul Verhoeven, Elizabeth Berkley, and Gina Gershon (or have Verhoeven separate and Berkley and Gershon on their own track), any deleted scenes that might exist, a big making-of documentary (at least one hour long, but preferably longer) containing all-new interviews with almost everyone explaining what it was like working on the picture and how it holds up over a decade later (12 years at current), the two teaser trailers from the 1996 LaserDisc, the theatrical trailer, featurettes, bloopers, photo galleries, etc.

With the exception of the Pop-Up Video trivia track, the extras on the VIP DVD are largely worthless to me. At least the transfer is 16x9 enhanced.

The commentary on the VIP edition is hilarious.

Since I missed out on the VIP edition and didn't like the cost of that edition. This new single release is just what I need

I agree a real SE would be nice. But I'll take a 16.9 transfer and a low price more than anything else.

That sounds like the VIP edition, which does have the "Showgirls Diary" and the commentary and the trivia. I think the featurette is just misnamed (given it has the same name as the commentary from the old DVD) and that it is probably the "Lap Dance Tutorial" featurette on the VIP edition. Behind-the-Scenes footage might be the stuff from the old DVD.

If any movie could profit off of the "Unrated" banner it would be this one. But alas no.

I think "Elizabeth Berkeley's gyno exam" was the working title for the film.

The original disc isn't 16X9 is it? Damn, I haven't even opened it and I'd hate to double dip but may have to eventually.

If Ms Berkeley personally delivered this triple dip dvd to me I would consider a purchase...This crap is getting out of hand now...Do movie companies really think the buyers are suckers or what?

I think its just a way to get older movies back on shelves in stores. With space to tight, whats the best way to get your movie seen again, and back on the new release shelf?

No "painted on bra" tv version = no sale. I'll stick with the boxset. Speaking of which is that version anamorphic? Last time I watched it was before I upgraded TVs.

I think this is a reasonable re-release cause not everyone wants ot have the not-very-conspicuous Showgirls box set just lying around

I have both previously released versions. The older one is non-anamorphic, and the VIP Edition is anamorphic. I guess we'll have to wait and see if this "new" version has any improvement.

The poster was part of the "pin the pasties on the showgirl" game, I believe

Considering what happened to her career after this movie, it's probably not out of the realm of possibility.

Technically it's 2.35:1 non-anamorphic.
