Are you serious? The previous releases all said Anamporphic?

I just looked at the back covers from the previous 2 disc and single disc and the back covers are different than the one they posted for the new lenticular cover. so maybe there is still hope it is 16x9

The "new" release states 16:9 anamorphic on the slipcover, but non-anamorphic letterbox on the actual DVD cover inside. This is just ANOTHER repacking of the same lousy transfer.

This is just a big slap in the face. Fox has re-released this title several times with the same crappy non-16x9 transfer.

the menus are enhanced for widescreen, but the movie is not.. that is why you get the text on the back of the box.

Geez Lou-freaking-ise Fox, just give us an Anamorphic release for this movie already! This is like Fox's Army of Darkness, but we still can't get it in 16x9.

Argh. Fox is just too lazy. As many releases as this gets, its more than due for a true SE release w/ 16x9. Just when I started to get excited over this and now im glad, saves me another $12.99 or so.

Yeah, I saw this today. It says Anamorphic on the specs part of the cover, but lower says something to the effect of presented in a LETTERBOX WIDESCREEN format, which is of course, code for non-anamorphic.

I just picked this up at CC for $7.99 and I can confirm that it IS NOT Anamorphic. The menu is, but the actual film is not. At least it was only $7.99 because I wouldn't have paid anymore for this.

This movie came out in 1989. Why does the packaging say 1993?

FOX deserves all the criticism they can get for not having this in Anamorphic WS yet and recycling this over and over again. The menu is Anamorphic WS but not the actual movie....just wrong!

Fox is quickly catching up to Universal as my least favorite DVD studio.

Un....

Fucking.....

Believeable....

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched this film for the first time in years, mouth watering and drooling over the thought of watching a new anamorphic transfer and a real 5.1 DD track, only to be EXTREMELY let down by this shitty excuse for a dvd!!! This is simply EVIL on Fox's part! I watched it on my Tosh AX-2 HD-Dvd player and was wondering why the frame was so small. The picture is TERRIBLE!!! And the sound mix mediocre at best!

I want my money back NOW! This is one of my favorite films of all time and I can't believe Fox is treating Cameron's masterpiece like this!

Someone please please PLEASE tell me there's an HD-DVD or Blu-ray version being worked on!

Why would a would a movie of this caliber not get anamorphic treatment it deserves? What the hell are these corporate creeps from fox doing giving us crappy editions of this cinematatic gem.

Saving a few dimes by re-releasing the old version again, that's what.

It still doesn't excuse the fact that even though they can change the look of the packaging, they can't get rid of the detail on the back of the box that says it's anamorphic. Instead, they overlook this time and time again and continue to confuse consumers.

Still, one cursory glance online will provide seven years of complaining about this single issue, and a more informed purchase would have been made. The packaging information for the newest version is the same as the previous versions--I wouldn't blindly buy it assuming it's anamorphic all of a sudden. Yeah, it's a packaging error, but it's also a well-discussed one and a well-known one, as it's been around for so long. The dvd forums would have been alight with joy about it actually being true. It's stupid that it hasn't been fixed, we all agree with that; however, with the amazing amount of free information, discussion and review sites online that are available to everybody, I can't imagine not taking the time to check first before buying any dvd these days. Buyer beware.
