Ghost Rider --> June 12th!

Officially announcing on April 9th, "Ghost Rider" will be seeing 4 releases: SD Full Frame, SD Widescreen, and SD 2 Disc Extended Edition and Blu-Ray Extended Editions.

Happily, they will include DTS soundtracks!

The extended edition will run 127 mins, while the theatrical versions clock in at 110 mins. Retail will hover at $34.95 for the 2 disc edition, and the single disc version at $28.95.

Full details to follow on announce day.

TomOpus 03-18-07 10:38 AM

Very cool. Didn't see it in the theater (I know, it's still an option but the window has closed) so I'll probably pick up the 2-disc. :fc: for a dts track.

tonymontana313 03-18-07 10:41 AM

Yes! Now I can go ahead and purchase this on release day without having to worry about a double dip. 2 disc SE, here I come!

matome 03-18-07 10:49 AM

Nice. Blu-Ray for me. God I love these short theatrical windows!

ignition 03-18-07 10:50 AM

Oh man, I really hope there are some cool retailer exclusives being released with this movie... I love anything Marvel related...

fumanstan 03-18-07 10:54 AM

Been wanting to catch this in theaters, but with the short DVD turn around i might just go for the extended DVD so long it has a theatrical cut.

Artman 03-18-07 03:35 PM

That's cool that they're releasing both at the same time. Good job Sony!

Didn't catch this one in theaters, but will certainly give it a rent...and depending on that, maybe a future purchase.

Rammsteinfan 03-18-07 07:52 PM

2 disc Extended for me. Thanks for the info.

Same here.

John*D 03-18-07 11:52 PM

It definitely is great to hear that we won't have to wait for a 2-discer, given past MARVEL releases...

I'll have to stock up on Jelly Beans!

shacmasta 03-19-07 12:18 AM

I too didn't catch it in theaters, but will be getting the 2 discer. I'm also hoping for some cool retailer exclusives. That are pretty common now with these comic book movie releases.

nateman 03-19-07 12:47 AM

SD 2 Disc Extended Edition for me, i also missed this and theaters. Happy to see a DTS track for the movie!

Mao 03-19-07 10:01 AM

ReduxGuy,

The Region 3 version (which plays Region 1) has a smoking DTS track and can be picked up very cheaply! Highly recommended!

Ditto. This should look amazing on BD and come with a nice PCM audio track. Plus, it's cool we get the extended version. Good job, Sony.

tbwmp88 03-19-07 10:43 AM

Love the short turn around time  I'll rent it first.

jPoD_TGN 03-20-07 01:30 PM

Quite possibly top 5 worst movies ive ever seen and i'm a huge Cage fan.

Zodiac_Speaking 03-20-07 03:26 PM

Horrible movie but atleast the people who pick it up will get a nice set.

onebyone 03-20-07 03:31 PM

I can't wait for this. If the extended version is really going to be that much longer, it is going to be one sweet release indeed.

Further Details:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed early details on Ghost Rider which stars Nicolas Cage, and Eva Mendes. The film will be available to own from the 12th June as a single-disc ($28.95), or a two-disc extended edition ($34.95) with around 17 minutes of additional footage. The discs have yet to be officially announced so details are still sketchy - although we understand that 3 audio commentaries, and a 60 minute "Spirit of Vengeance: The Making of Ghost Rider" documentary will be included on the two-disc version. A Blu-ray edition will also be available for $38.96 - this will include the extended cut. We'll bring you further details (and the final artwork) just as soon as it is made available to us. Stay tuned.

I didn't care for the movie too much, but I like those extras. Wonder who will be on those commentaries?

Spiderbite 03-24-07 02:07 AM

For so many who have mentioned they missed it in theaters...I saw it yesterday...I recommend renting it if you have to see it.

Bluebomber 03-24-07 09:13 AM

Having seen it in theaters I won't touch these dvds with a ten foot pole, definitely agree, rent this first.

CertifiedTHX 03-24-07 06:00 PM

Rather mixed reviews, I see. Was tempted to go-- friend of mine was excited about it-- but bowed out ultimately. Just didn't look quite worth the money-- average, at best. But, certainly looks like a winning DVD release.

Here is an FYI on this title.

You can reserve it at any Transworld locations (Fye, Coconuts, Strawberries, Wherehouse, etc...) with just a $2 deposit, which is sweet because they give you a $2 coupon to use on a future purchase. Not an amazing deal, but worth it if you were planning to make a couple purchases.

They are doing the same thing with 300.

I don't think this one is a purchase for me (which really says a lot). Pretty sweet cover art on the 2-disc version, though!

Yavin 05-28-07 08:25 AM

IGN review is up. Didn't realize this was coming up so soon. Unless there are some really good retailer exclusives, I'll probably wait till the 2-disc drops in price. Maybe Futureshop will give us another steelbook, like there was for the Grudge 2, another Sony release. Here's to hoping.

Ethan VanSciver 05-28-07 05:47 PM

I'll buy the extended version. I haven't seen the movie and I've been told it's terrible, but I love Ghost Rider.

A documentary about the origin of Ghost Rider comics? That should be interesting.... "uh, it was the 70's and we made a pun on the phrase 'ghost writer'. We did it to make fun of Stan Lee."

RaMMaR 06-03-07 05:20 AM

Any news on whether or not the Ghost Rider releases will have FF2 moviebucks? There are some nice deals on non-R1 discs (plus better cover, ImO), but if moviebucks are included w/ the R1s, i may have to get them instead.

VERY unlikely -- Fantastic Four is Twentieth Century-Fox, while Ghost Rider is a Sony film.

Trevor 06-11-07 08:06 AM

This DVD release has five different U.S. exclusives; BB, CC, WM, Target, and KM. :grumble:

Yavin 06-11-07 08:34 AM

In Canada land, the exclusives breakdown as follows:

- Futureshop -- exclusive I-Active CD-ROM with extended edition
- Best Buy -- exclusive "making of" book with extended edition
- Wal-Mart -- exclusive bonus disc with extended edition (in separate keep case)

The only exclusive that seems worthwhile is the Wal-Mart bonus disc, though I don't know what's on it. I'm not sure what, if any, exclusive offer HMV has with the GH extended edition. Possibly none, but they have had some bonuses for other recent releases so who knows.

I know BB has the visual guide, CC has a bonus disc, and target has the exclusive package, but what do WM and KM have?

LKirven517 06-11-07 10:12 AM

Wal-Mart has a Bonus Disc with about 20 Minutes of featurettes (the set also comes with a Ghost Rider bandana, lenticular cover, and some cell phone wallpaper...but if you look at a picture of the set it seems like the Bonus is only available with the REGULAR Version, not the Extended.)

http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/04/33/96...87_500X500.jpg

K-Mart has an Interactive CD-ROM as a bonus

Lkirven answered, but info is also in the definitive exclusive thread every week.

Captain Jackal 06-11-07 12:18 PM

I love Ghost Rider too but I can't believe so many of you are wanting to own this horrible movie. I saw this during it's theatrical run and it's the first movie I've ever walked out of.
