I'm going to hold out, i think there will e a definitive edition when both films comes out too. We all know how what they do now so its best to wait. For me anyway.

Where do people dream up these fantasies!? This sounds like a joke but I'm not sure since a lot of people seem to be waiting for a combined set.

So, I'll say it once more for anyone who wants to listen.

Both films are owned by different studios, so the possibility that there will be any combination of these in any fashion (films or packaging) is a pipe dream.

It would maybe only be likely that a retailer would offer some sort of special case to hold the two films together (like BestBuy did with Kill Bill). And of course there is possibility of exclusive extras and other fluff.

We already have this announcement for a 2-disc Flags. Warner will likely get Iwo Jimo released properly the first time with a two-disc set. It's unlikely that Warner would release two different versions at different times.

Paramount and Warner just announced they were working together to release a ton of films on John Wayne's birthday. Perhaps the idea that they could release a special 2-pack of both films is not ENTIRELY unreasonable.

Flags of Our Fathers and Babel had NOTHING in the way of extras, so why did people rush out to buy these, knowing without a doubt there will be a better edition down the line? Instead, I rented both because I probably wouldn't watch them again in the time that it takes them to release a better edition. Studios are out to screw people with these constant double-dips, and to be honest, many people make it quite easy for them to do so.

You're right on all accounts. Warner has a good history of not double-dipping with newer titles (only with some of their earliest dvd releases that needed a new version). We'll probably see Warner release a single disc and a 2-disc (or possibly 3-disc with the soundtrack as they did for Eastwood's last 2 releases) at the same time for Letters From Iwo Jima. Davisdvd reported that Letters would be released on May 1st. That date may hold, or they might wait to time it a little better with the Flags of Our Fathers release. The two coming out around the same time is very possible, but a box set is probably not going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

ditto. that or i may wait for the 3 disc set, seeing as eastwood likes the 3 disc sets, the third disc being the soundtrack!

but if you look closely all they did was share a press release. No box sets will contain both warner and paramount titles. Paramount is releasing one new dvd (a double dip) and rehashing there old disc into box sets.

Many of the features will be in HD as well. Paramount's day & date titles lately on HD DVD and BD have been solid. 2-disc sets with HD extras. nice.

FWIW, Target has this with an exclusive 3rd disc, a documentary on wartime photographers.

This is exactly why I never buy bare bones movie releases.

Main reason I've been holding out on the Kill Bill movies, despite wanting to see them quite badly, I want that 4 disk SE box set. Eventually the studios gonna give it up.

Trevor: Thank you for letting us know about the Target bonus disk.

The Valeyard: The Target-exclusive disk contains a 22-minute History Channel program called "History in Focus." It contains a few clips from the film, a few short behind-the scenes clips with Clint Eastwood, a brief look at important wartime photos, and a very cursory overview of the training received by modern-day combat photographers.

This is my first post to the Forum. I hope it's helpful!

Awesome first post, welcome to the forum!

Your user name, was that an old British comic book?

Thanks for the 411 on the Target disc. I actually went to Best Buy and got the 5 disc because the A&E documentary was more appealing. I used a 10% off coupon and a $5 RZ coupon and ended up paying $39.99, which is not bad IMO. It would have run about the same if I chose to pick both movies up separately at Target.

Thanks, I'm glad to be here!

And yes, Strontium Dog is a character from the long-running British comic book 2000 AD, a title probably best known for the adventures of Judge Dredd. I'm not from England, but I am a longtime comics fan, and thought SD would be a cool user name that's just obscure enough not to be taken already.

Yes, the 5-disc box set is the way to go if you want both Flags and Letters. I saw both in the theater, and certainly both are very well done. Letters is such a grim story, though, that I'm not itchin' to watch it again, so I only bought Flags.

I think the Target exclusive disc is about 22 minutes.
