I got this in the mail today from CH, and I just finished watching it. I really, really loved this little flick. I've never known anything about the story, other than it's about Superman's death, so maybe that's why I think so highly of it, I dunno. Either way, yeah, I had a lot of fun watching this DVD. Heck, if there was a sequel I'd go buy it and watch it right now.

I just got half way through this (Netflix) and I turned it off. Talk about utter junk. I'd rather they would have done an original story, made it shorter and better. This? It sucks on so many levels!
It's as if the writers went out to lunch. The dialogue was abrupt, short sighted and just plain lacking any substance. I can't tell if I disliked the random news anchors, or the main characters more!
I disliked Lois the most, but she actually grew on me. While I felt Lex was rather consistent with TAS, etc. Marsters just wasn't doing for me. Love pretty much all of his work that I've seen, but this wasn't cutting it.
The animation? Talk about cheap and sparse! I felt like I was watching something with half a budget. The only scenes that felt like they had some weight were near the memorial and the throngs of people.
Oh yeah, how old were they trying to make Superman look? I've never been a big fan of the bulky look, but this was bulky gone wrong!
Then we come to the story. It's really criminal that they butchered the classic storyline and ended up with this. Where was the Justice League? Where were the 4 supermen storyline? Black suit and long hair? I had no sense of time passing or much of an afteraffect. Lois at the farm did get to me, but Ma Kent seemed very off too!
I'm all for creative liscence, but this wasn't even creative! I understood how they tried to make it modern by reference today's world over in Iraq, etc., which I'm good with, but even those lines and ideas were phoned in.
Has it already been 14 years since this happended?! Or was it more like 11?
Don't think I'll finish watching it, but maybe I'll check out the documentary.

I was hugely dissapointed in this film. The animation was really weird. It seems that they were trying to mix the animation style from the Paul Dini era with the animation of WB Kids The Batman. The story was completely rushed and the voices didn't click. I don't know why the didn't make this part of the Superman Animated or Justice League series. They could even have made this a 4 episode mini-series that followed more loyally the story Dan Jurgens created. The people who made this really forgot that this was a big event back in 93. It was one of the highest selling comics of all time and it deserved a better treatment.
Still, I may get the blu-ray if I find it at a reasonable price.

The problems with these DC animated movies is they are all 75 minutes. And that is way too short for the stories they are trying to hell here (New Frontier is another example, and I'd bet Wonder Woman will have the same problem)
