Only T2 so far: the original release (1997 snapper), the Ultimate Edition (w/metal sleeve) & then the Extreme Edition (w/metal case).
I still have the Ultimate and Extreme editions.
However, when Last of the Mohicans is cleaned up, I'll gladly triple dip on that one.

a non-PAL version once an alternate was released, a better transfer, different
cut of a film, or in the case of triplets, wanting it in English. Not to mention
collectibles like the miniature swords package of Seven Swords.

Most are in languages that I can't understand. But that wasn't the point anyway.
And I can honestly say that the particular DVD sets that I listed except for GITS were not purchased for upgrade potential either, as Brooklyn quoted. Probably a good thing I don't do this much ..But in an attempt to retain some of my sanity in the view of the general public .. all my double dips have been upgrades (animorphic or DTS) and 95% of the originals have been sold. .... ahh, I feel better now.

For the dude with the r2 japanese version of Battle Royale special version, how is the transfer and subtitles? The verison I have (region 2 uk 2 disc se) has a great dts mix, perfect subtitles, just not the greatest transfer.

darker than I remember the r3 being), but there are a few dust and small scratches
evident in the new scenes (assumably this is attributed to the print and not the
transfer). It's the Japanese release and unfortunately there are no English subs.

Me too, ALL 43 of the individual volumes, then the definitive single, then the definitive box set. Luckily, I was able to sell the others off on Ebay to break even on what I spent.

Jay G., Seems to me you love Shaolin Soccer. Can you tell me if the extended cut is better then the theatrical cut and if yes, why? And what do the majority think?

I've tripple-dipped on atleast 10 titles. I think the first triple-dip was as with others here, T2 (I own more than 3 versions of it now). However, I also purchase R2 and R3 DVDs, so it's much easier to become tempted as it opens up for so many additional releases.

In either case, the Extended Cut is better, but for slightly different reasons.
In comparing the Extended Cut to the original Hong Kong cut, the Extended Cut just adds in two more scenes, one of which is unessential but very funny, the other is an important character development moment that enhances the love story in the film. So it's a slightly longer, better version of the film with outtakes at the end as a bonus.
In comparing the Extended Cut to the Miramax edit, the Miramax edit is an abomination that should be wiped from the Earth. Miramax pretty mercilessly cut out a bunch of character development so they could focus on the slapstick and action more. In a telling move, Miramax included the unessential but funny scene from the Extended Cut, and even edited in an outtake, while cutting out character stuff that was even in the Hong Kong Theatrical Cut. From accounts of people who saw this cut first, the film is good enough that it can still be enjoyed in this mutilated form, but the Miramax edit doesn't hold a candle to either of the other cuts.
So in summary, ranked from best to worst the list of different cuts goes: Extended Cut, Hong Kong Theatrical, Miramax Edit.
From what I've read, this is pretty much the way everyone who has seen the different edits has ranked them as well.

I think different exclusive disc editions count as multiple dips. It's akin to re-buying a movie on a new SE for new extras, except without the time-gap between releases.

Das Boot: director's cut, Superbit, original miniseries
I've double dipped a lot, but I've traded in just about all of them to FYE in their numerous promotions

I think my first triple-dip will be when I get around to getting the new Re-Animator that will be coming out, since I had the original Elite and currently own the Millenium Edition. Would it still be considered a triple dip even though I sold the first one off? Oh, and I guess I kind of triple-dipped Night of the Living Dead, because I first got the 30th Anniversary Edition (I didn't know any better!), replaced that with the Elite and then replaced that with the Millenium Edition.

I did that, myself, and all over the course of a two straight days. And then my DVD player died. No joke. At least it was about 5 years old at the time, so it wasn't like a fried a fairly new player - but yes, I do believe it was responsible for it's untimely demise.
Back on topic, though, the only movie I've triple dipped on is Dazed & Confused. Got the original bare bones version back in the day, then the "Flashback Edition" when that came out, and finally, the Criterion edition last year. Eventually unloaded the other two, though

Which dvd version of Shaolin Soccer is consitered the best ? I have the region 0 Universe dvd. It has dts, a some what soft transfer, and subtitles which can go from decent to unintentially funny due to poor grammer.
The only time i have tripledipped was Hero. The guong dong face original region free version missing subtitles for the opening and ending, the extended cut from the same company which has a watermark every ten minutes and still has no subtitles for the opening and closing. Then the most recent version i got was the region 3 EDKO extended version.

For example, the R1 US DVD contains more image than the HK R0, which is slightly zoomed in. The image is also free of the dirt that plagues the HK transfer, and may be less soft. It also has the Extended Cut in the original language as a playback option that doesn't require button pressing during viewing, like the HK DVD does. However, it lacks DTS and the English subtitles for the Extended Cut range from competent to somewhat different than what is said, to as good as the HK disc, to non-existent (some lines in the film, and all of the outtakes, are left untranslated).
Some people like the Korean UE 3-disc, but the first disc of that set contains the video transfer and subtitles of the HK DVD, while the 2nd disc contains the video transfer and subtitles of the US DVD. The third disc has the extras from the HK DVD, but without English subtitles, with the only added feature being a US trailer for the film.
The UK may be the best for someone who doesn't already have a copy, provided they don't mind PAL or the lack of DTS. Otherwise it has most of the extras available for the film, sans trailers, with English subtitles, along with both cuts of the film (although the outtakes reel is an extra instead of tagged onto the end of the Extended Cut as in most other releases). I don't know about the video quality of this release though.
Here's a site that compares a bunch of the releases:

One "problem" I have with my multiple dips is that I insist on keeping my old versions if even one small tidbit of an extra is not carried over to the "upgrade". We have a thread dedicated to those instances now.
