Yikes!

I'll double dip on Third Man. All the cover art is pretty damn awesome.

I sold my The Third Man (Criterion) a couple years ago. It was a good movie but I'll be spending my DVD money on other movies.

I've been telling myself I was going to sell my The Third Man for 6 months now, I guess I missed my chance to make any money off of it. Oh well, I'm definitely in for The Third Man, Vengeance Is Mine, and probably Army of Shadows. I've been holding off on Vengeance is Mine MOC, so let's hope this stacks up.

Interested in finally seeing Army of Shadows, but I see no reason to re-buy Vengeance Is Mine since the MoC R2 is already perfect. It is one of the best Japanese films ever, though, so shame on anyone who skips it! Probably won't bother upgrading my Third Man disc, either.

These all look great but Army of Shadows and Third Man look especially good. More Melville is always a good thing.

I thought their cover art was slipping there for awhile, but this year's releases are some of their best covers ever. Oh and the films are nice, too. That Third Man makes me

I'm pretty disappointed with Criterion releasing this completely bare (and opting to go with an Imamura that's already available instead of one that hasn't seen any English-friendly DVD whatsoever); the MoC wasn't packed by any means, but there was at least Tony Rayns commentary and an introduction by Alex Cox.

In regards to Masters of Cinema's "status," they do tend to be a bit less expensive even when import costs are factored in but still match Criterion in quality, IMO, every step of the way. Their output is more limited, though.

I just bought the Third Man in Jan. Oh well, looks like a solid re-release.

I'll be getting all of these, with the possible exception of "Vengeance is Mine". The Masters of Cinema release is really very nice, but I suspect if the transfer is even slightly better I'll have to get the Criterion release, too.

Great, great stuff for May. Particularly thrilled to have some more Mizoguchi, but I think that one also deserves some more thorough extras. Then again, "Ugetsu" is fairly loaded.

And I'll echo an earlier poster - even if the "Scorsese print" is the only complete "ANDREI RUBLEV" element that Criterion has to work with, it still needs to come out again with a transfer done on their spiffy new telecine, anamorphically-enhanced, tons of additional extras, blah-blah. This one is crucial, and I believe that Criterion's initial release even predates their first "The Third Man" disc.

With their free shipping, CD-Wow! is easily the best for folks in the U.S. You can even purchase in dollars, so your credit card won't charge an extra conversion fee.

Nice to hear! They are playing Army of Shadows during the NoDa Film Festival next week. I think it will actually be the Charlotte premiere for this film. Can't wait to get it on DVD.

Is there any conceivable reason to keep the original Third Man release (assuming, of course, that you are definitely going to buy the new one)?

There appears to be some confusion about the actual release date for Sansho the Bailiff. I noticed that DVDPlanet has had it listed as May 15 for quite some time now, but the DVD Talk Release List, as well as other retailers such as Amazon, have it listed as May 22. I pre-ordered at DVDPlanet and got a shipping notification yesterday (May 8). Not sure what the explanation is, but I'm happy. Just wanted to share in case anyone else was wondering about this.
