Wow - I had just sold my Third Man with the hopes of a future re-release. The Vengeance Is Mine will have to be awesome to compete with the excellent region2 dvd. Army of Shadows & Sansho the Bailiff should be must haves. Great news!
Exciting news about The Third Man and I look forward to seeing the rest, too.
I dumped my old Third Man too. A 2 disc'er should be a really nice replacement.
I think the link to Army of Shadows needs correcting, it currently points to Sansho. |
I also recently sold the OOP Third Man Criterion, but I am not sure if I will rebuy it.

I wonder how long it will take for someone to assume that BFI's R2 release of Army of Shadows will remain superior to Criterion's, even though the Criterion hasn't been released yet.... Actually, it will be interesting to see how the extras compare. And if Criterion still fiddles with Melville's colors. |
Woo hoo! Got to love all these classic, non-Kurosawa Japanese films.
Your Army of Shdows link points to Sansho the Baliff.
I'll be picking up Sansho the Baliff for sure! |
Army of Shadows link fixed

The Third Man will be mine!
Holy shit, those are amazing covers. The Melville one especially knocks me on my ass.
Well, since THE THIRD MAN is just about my favourite movie of all time, I won't begrudge the double dip. Their previous release was one of the very first DVDs I ever bought, nearly seven years ago, and was my first Criterion.
Is the swastika supposed to be on the floor underneath the sitting man? It looks like it's supposed to be, but it's on top of his shoes.
(edit-I originally saw this art on a monitor that must have been too bright, and the see-through effect was so pronounced it looked like an error. Now seeing it again on another machine it looks much better and, well, appropriately shadowy.) Otherwise, excellent art as always by Criterion. |
I will have to doubledip The Third Man. :(

Melville.
Any chance of Le Doulos getting the Criterion treatment? |
I agree - Criterion covers alone sometimes make me consider a movie, or at least rouse my curiosity. And yes, there is a swastika below the man's feet in Army of Shadows.
Oh man, those covers are all awesome. Time to sell my Third Man.
More Melville is always good news. Looks like I'll be double dipping on The Third Man as well.
