It has to be Berlin Alexanderplatz. It must be 25 years since I've seen this.

More Fassbinder is more better

If Criterion does half as good a job on this as they did with the BRD trilogy, then it should be a great set.

Always read great things about Berlin Alexanderplatz, but have never able to seen it. Great news.

The 1931 version and a copy of the novel would be nice extras for this set.

And what is the significance of the pig? Is that an inside joke about Fassbinder? He actually was quite a homely looking chap.

And anyone else notice the reference that Criterion is prepping Night On Earth for release? That seems like big news to me... or perhaps I'm the only one who didn't know of that prior.

For a very short moment I actually thought that this might suggest SALO's re-release but then....

It has been pointed out every month that the "wacky animals" are not clues. They are merely references to past releases.

This month's animal is the boar from The Lord of the Flies.

This thing should probably be a 5-7 disc set. But since it's just "one" film, I hope it's not as expensive as other Critrerion multi-movie sets.

Not really. Last month had 12 monkeys as the wacky animal in reference to the upcoming, although not announced releases of La Jetee and Sans Soleil.

I remember dreaming of this release as far back as 1998, and even though we've known that it's coming for a little while now, it'll still be crazy to actually behold a Criterion edition of "Alexanderplatz".

WOW - It was March 24,2005 when I posted that DVDBeaver had announced that Criterion was going to release this. It's taken a while, but should be worth the wait!

15 1/2 hours of Criterion quality restoration, who knows how many special features and commentaries, and thinking of and creating a bad ass box set to house it all in would take almost 3 years.

Another Criterion Newsletter and another reason to be excited about the upcoming months

Actually the restoration has absolutely nothing to do with Criterion (and i see what you mean above). It should be even better!

From DVDBeaver:
"From the DVDBeaver ListServ (Thanks Pepsi!):
BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ
"Finnish Digital-TV has broadcasted now 12 of the 15 parts of BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ. The new restoration made by Fassbinder Foundation. I must say that this is the biggest disappointment of the year, I do hope Criterion can do wonders, or postpone the release and make a new restoration. I actually get a headache if I even look at the image for more than two minutes - I'm gonna drop the viewing and wait for the Criterion. If someone have the old tapes, don't throw it away yet!..."
