I just purchased 'Chances Are' from DDD. At the time of purchase, there was not an aspect ratio listed (which DDD is famous as not always listing) so I checked Amazon, DVDspot, others and they listed it as a combination fullscreen/anamorphic widescreen. Now I just received it today and the cover lists it as fullscreen and it definitely is Iupon viewing) with no other options available. DDD now has it listed as fullscreen. But I ran the UPC code at several sites and it's listed as anamorphic widescreen or a combo of the two. Any ideas? Can I return it even though it was opened to check the aspect ratio? Frustrated.

This is one of many CTHE releases that originally offered both a widescreen and pan and scan side. They re-released them a couple of years ago without changing the UPC so that some retailers list the previous info.

As for returning, you could try but you might have some issues since the cover only stated fullscreen. I'd try writing or calling DD and explain.

It begs the question, if you have a dvd that offers both formats...WHY on earth would you take off the widescreen option when rereleasing it? Seems to me to be more trouble to drop an option.

These were dual-sided discs, and it costs less to manufacture single-sided discs. I don't know why they decide to remove the widescreen side instead of the fullscreen side, but perhaps their market research tells them that after a certain point the fullscreen version will sell better.

More like Wal*Mart.
