The HD artwork is a hack job...terrible. This is a must own regardless, but I much prefered the teaser artwork for this movie...but at least it's not as bad as the broken glass one, which inexplicably emphasizes "The Year 2027"...'the Future is a thing of the past' is a decent tagline, but why is the year as big as the movie title? To lure in audiences? 2027! Hell yeah I'll rent this...if it took place in 2028 or 2026 I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, but 2027: I'm there!

Some of their choices are a bit odd...On the Standard DVD , the world "Children" in the title is in red, and "Of Men" is white, and on the HD-DVD, the whole title is white, making the cover look even more plain.
Seems kinda like Universal has no idea what do with this great film. If they had handled the theatrical release better (they really botched it, IMO) then the movie could have made double what it made in theaters. It only made a little above 30 million.

This was my favorite movie of last year so I'll be buying this near the release day, no matter how mediocre the cover may be (and it truly is quite mediocre.)

This is a movie where I'll definitely be getting the HDdvd of - I'm pretty sure they'll port all the extras from the 2-disc to the HDdvd like they did with Jarhead.

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Ever. I've considered importing the R2 just so I can have it quicker. But I think I'll hold off for the R1 as it's coming a lot sooner than I expected.

Viva, Mexico for producing some great directors who made last year's crop of Hollywood fare a notch above the usual predictable fare.As for the DVD, sheesh, all the superifical whining about the cover art! Spare me! The cover doesn't bother me, considering this looks like a more than decently packed DVD release. I mean, Slavoj Zizek comments on the film, even!

I got this dvd a few days ago, and it's not packed, per se, but it's not bad for a single disc.
The transfer itself looks great - as good as any SD transfer can look. The only negative thing I can say about it is that it's not HD. The sound isn't too loud or punchy, but represents the movie's dynamic use of directional and layered sound pretty well.
The extras are decent, but not that great (I smell a double-dip). You get three deleted scenes, that are fairly short and would've been fine left in the movie. There's an intriguing 30-minute documentary about the themes the movie's trying to get across - it's loaded with a lot of compelling contemprary images, and has input from lots of sociological scholars, including Slavoj Zizek. Who shows up on another extra where he comments on the film more directly for about 5 minutes. There's also a fairly good behind the scenes of how they did two of the longer takes in the movie - the one at the begining and the one in the car (but there's nothing about the one at the end). There's a 5-minute fluff piece about the actors, another one about the set-design which is a little more interesting, and a 3-minute piece that takes you step-by-step through how they did the
That's it for the regular dvd - I think the HD dvd will have a couple more extras, but not much more.
But I'll be getting that too, as I'm a whore for this movie.

I went to Universal Studios, and the Region 1 cover is actually the same cover art they used for a billboard that has been up since January (when the film hit theaters), so I guess this is some of the original cover art, just not the "main" cover art.

Hopefully if they do double dip this (I don't know why they would...nothing to tie it into) they at least do a commentary. Although Universal has a good relationship with Criterion and they don't seem to care much about this film...one can always hope.

Also at the end of the article, this is mentioned (along with the link):
"Cuaron will be participating in a live chat Monday, the 26th at 6pm (PST). He'll be talking about the politics in the film and answer submitted questions."
