Roots (4 Disc Collector's Edition instead of 7 Disc) 30th Anniversary Edition 5/22

Warner Bros. has announced a new release for Roots. This release marks the 30th Anniversary of the mini-series watched by over 80 million people when it originally aired. The 7 4 disc set will be released May 22 and has new bonus material. Suggested retail price is $59.98

• 9 hours 33 minutes
• Available Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
• Available Audio Tracks: English (DD 2.0 Stereo), Spanish (DD 2.0 Stereo)
• "Remembering Roots" featurette

New bonus disc:
• "Crossing Over: How Roots Captivated a Nation" (2007)
• Documentary "Roots: One Year Later" (1978)
Based on Alex Haley's best-selling novel about his African ancestors, Roots followed several generations in the lives of a slave family. The saga began with Kunta Kinte (LeVar Burton), a West African youth captured by slave raiders and shipped to America in the 1700s. The family's saga is depicted up until the Civil War where Kunte Kinte's grandson gained emancipation. Roots made its greatest impression on the ratings and widespread popularity it garnered. On average, 130 million - almost half the country at the time - saw all or part of the series.
Starring: Ben Vereen, Brad Davis, Cicely Tyson, Ed Asner, Georg Brown, John Stamos, Le Var Burton, Leslie Uggams, Lloyd Bridges, Louis Gossett, Jr., Lynne Moody, Madge Sinclair, Maya Angelou, Robert Reed, Sandy Duncan, Alex Haley, David L. Wolper, Quincy Jones, and Stan Margulies

Good to hear. The prices were getting ridiculously high on the secondary market.

This is the second go around for Roots. I bought it the first time around.

Anyone hear anything about Roots: The Next Generations? I would sure like to get that one.

Just got word from TVshowsonDVD that Roots:The Next Generation will be released on DVD this fall along with a combo of the two Roots mini-series.

We've added a news item for "Roots: The Next Generations (mini-series)" to the site. Here it is:

IMDB Trailer Shows Upcoming Next Generations Release - 5:25 AM 4/24/2007 "Roots: The Next Generations" is coming to DVD later this year. Read the story in the TVShowsOnDVD News!

Glad to see that both Roots and Roots: The Next Generations are being released.

I take it the new edition uses DVD-18s like the old one did?

Best Buy and Target both have an exclusive bonus disc. Anyone know what's on them?

I have the original set, but also curious as to what will be on exclusive discs from both Target and Best Buy and the quality of the content on the new bonus disc included with the set.

I can always give my current set to a family member (they love to see me coming w/ any package - they assume free DVDs are enclosed ) and pick this one up, but will hold out until I see some reviews.

anyone have any idea if these will be on either blu-ray or hd-dvd? this is exactly the kind of release that deserves a high def release. perfect way to ditch the double sided discs

Looks like the target bonus disc is the way to go, As far as a roots related bonus. Weird thing is, That Garvin cook is rather entertaining from the shows I've watched on TV one.
