Anchor Bay Bava Set Vol. 1 (4/3/2007)

Tim Lucas of Video Watchdog and a former employee of Anchor Bay revealed some of the details concerning the upcoming Anchor Bay Bava Vol.1 Set.

http://www.amazon.com/Bava-Box-Set-V...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

the five confirmed titles are:

BLACK SUNDAY
BLACK SABBATH
THE GIRL WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
KNIVES OF THE AVENGER
KILL, BABY...KILL

RABID DOGS (aka KIDNAPPED) is due the same day.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000MV8AB8

The Kill, Baby...Kill in the Anchor Bay set is not the same as the release due in March from Dark Sky Films.

Lucas recorded new commentaries for The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Black Sabbath, and Rabid Dogs. A previously recorded commentary from Black Sunday will be carried over from the Image release. New commentaires will also be recorded for Vol. 2.

Anchor Bay appears to be off to a great start in 2007.

I figured Black Sunday/The Mask of Satan would have to be in the first set.
It will be nice to have Black Sabbath back in print. I never picked up the Image edition.

Black Sabbath is the only one of these I currently own, so I'll definitely pick this set up.

Black Sunday and Black Sabbath are the only two I'm interested in, and I have both already, so there would have to be some nice extras thrown into the pot to sweeten things a bit. Speaking of which, any word on extras?

Unless they are a substantial improvement over the IMAGE releases or have the Les Baxter scores for Black Sunday or Black Sabbath (not to mention the English dub for the later), I won't bother...

Also note that Dark Sky Films is releasing KILL BABY KILL in March, a title announced by but never released by IMAGE for various reasons...

Rabid Dogs (aka Kidnapped) will also be released by Anchor Bay the same day.
It will include both versions of the film.

Considering all but Kill Baby Kill will have Lucas commentaries, I'm getting these.

I'll pick this up since I don't have any of the current discs.

Curious what'll be in Vol. 2

It seems kind of lame that "Kill Baby..." is coming out in two different versions at the same time.

Bava fans will have to buy it in the Box, then buy it again from Dark Sky to get the supplements (and possibly better transfer).

It would be nice if these companies could get together and hash something out for the sake of the fans.

Not the end of the world, I know, but still kind of annoying.

Anybody know if these titles will be available separately, or only in the box?

It IS kind of odd to be getting this film from 2 different companies at the same time after nothing from no one forever. Pretty funny when you think about it.

The box set details are shaping up and looks like I'll be replacing the IMAGE discs that I have. BLACK SABBATH will have BOTH cuts of the film, including the Les Baxter score.

Apparently FOUR TIMES THAT NIGHT is not part of box one. Thats OK by me. I would have in fact prefered BARON BLOOD over KNIVES OF THE AVENGER...maybe box 2. Things are looking up here for Bava fans...

I'm sold on this set. So is there any reason to hang on to my original Image DVDs of Black Sunday, Black Sabbath and Girl Who Knew Too Much?

This sounds like good news but I'm going to hold off unloading my Image discs until this new set is reviewed. And what's with the two simultaneous different releases of KILL, BABY...KILL! ? Very strange.

Bava has been treated pretty poorly on DVD so far. Here's hoping Anchor Bay does right by these classics. With these and Tim Lucas' soon-to-be-released 1000+ page Bava biography, 2007 could be THE year for Mario Bava fans!

P.S. Are these Region 1?

I too will wait to see the new transfers..which means missing out on top dollar on eBay...A few of those OOP IMAGE DVDs were selling for a good chunk of dough....especially the keep-case versions. Most were originally issued in snapper cases.

I would love to see the AB disc insert artwork. I liked IMAGE's packaging very much.

Is there any word on a projected 2nd box set's contents?
