Can someone help me identify the "Back To The Future" box set errors??

I was one of the many people hit with the "Superman" DVD blunder, and thanks to this board I already have my two replacement discs. In the process of reading posts I read quite a bit about the 3 DVD "Back To The Future" blunder. Can someone help me identify if I have the correct discs for #2 and #3? I am concerend I have the copies with the matte bars over the already cropped negative as was reported back when it was originally posted. Thank you in advance for any tips and help!

I think I got the first issue of BTTF boxset, but I guess it'd be easier to get the new 4 disc boxset than to get the replacement. But that's just me.

4 disc? I've missed some news. Can someone direct me to details on this? I never replaced my defective copy either.

I waited until corrected sets appeared in stores (only because Universal said it was gonna happen), but as a consequence, I didn't get the insert that came with the set... guess I need to start checking used copies.

That's what I did too. It took a while, but I ended up getting it for less and not having to go through the replacement hassle. I wasn't aware I was missing an insert, but I don't really care. I'll give up the insert for the movie without errors. Does the insert have anything important on it, or is it just the cover art duplicated?

What's this about a 4 disc set? I haven't heard about a new set.

The corrected BTTF 2 and 3 disks have a little "V2" at the very end of the bottom fine print on the disks.

So I clicked on this thread because I just recently bought this set. I was unaware of any defective discs.

I looked at my discs and there is a small V2 after the small print on part II but there is no V2 to be found on Part III.

That's kind of weird that they fixed the problem partially.

I have the corrected set and the Part II disc has the "v2" and the Part III disc doesn't. I'm quite certain that is the way it was done and your set is fine.

I was part of the replacement program and both Pt II and Pt III were corrected and both have the "V2" on the disc.

If you want to know if your version is miscropped, in particular your part 3 discs, why not just compare them with the images at that angelfire site? That's the best way for you to find out if you discs are still erroneous.

Can't find it right now since searching is disabled, but it is not too late the replacement program is still going on and I sent my replacement discs sometime around November 2006 and I think it took about a month to get the new ones back. When I find the thread I'll check the dates for sure. My replacement discs came with the "V2" on only disc II, disc III didn't have the "V2" marking but was corrected when I compared it to the anglefire screenshots in the website above. Hope that helps.

I just ordered my replacement discs from Universal, so they are still taking them back as of today. If you live in the USA just call one of these two numbers:

(888) 703-0010
(972) 293-5903

They were very helpful!

ok, just found the old threads and looks like I sent them off on 9/21/06 and received the replacements 10/19/06, so about a month but they are still replacing them. Here are the threads with more info.

Information from one of the early threads seem to confirm that some corrected Part III discs do not say "V2" but all Part II corrected discs do. I got my set when it was rereleased at "the lowest price ever" or something like that and there was a sticker on the outside. Those were all supposed to have been corrected and I'm sure they were. But only Part II said "V2."

This is a wealth of information - I knew you guys would be a great help, and you have. Thank you all for your tips and advice. I will be checking the discs immediately when I get home tonight. I am one of those who buys the DVD's / sets the day of release, and I may not watch them immediately since I am content knowing it is on the shelf waiting for me when I am ready. Plus, that damn TIVO / DVR fills up so fast (I have it on two sets) and that demands my attention since I don't want to lose something before I have a chance to see it. Thank you all again for your valuable advice!

I agree. Getting the corrected discs was WAY more important than getting the insert, which I never knew existed until recently. Hell, I even tossed the box after getting the "rental" inserts for each individual movie. Still, it'd be nice to have that insert, so I'm gonna start looking. Don't know the details, and I think it's safe to say there wasn't any mega-important information on it, but if I find one I'll try to post the details here.

... that is unless people are gonna start bitching about it because they don't happen to care about inserts.

I also just found out about this through reading the Superman thread. I sent my discs back about a week and a half ago. Any idea when the corrected one will arrive in NJ?

the insert is 12 pages cover to cover, with a breakdown of each film, chapter listings for all three movies and all the extras, as well as a few pages of production notes.
