What do you do with the inferior versions of double dips? Why are there double dips?

I have so many that I know I can't sell for anything and want to remove because they take up space and I am lacking that now.

So what do you do with the previous versions that are rendered pretty much obsolete because of a double/triple dip?

Gizmo 12-18-06 06:27 PM

Trade them in. Ebay them.

GoldenJCJ 12-18-06 06:28 PM

Amazingly, I've only double dipped a few times, some I've held on to cause they may have an extra or something that the DD lacks, so I keep it as complimentary DVD to the DD.

The other few I just give to my brother...

I've held on to my The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly original release simply cause I didn't want an empty slot in my Man with No Name Trilogy Box set and the DD doesn't fit.

I've only double dipped 3 or 4 times, gave the old one to a friend or family member.

Matt.train 12-18-06 06:43 PM

Trade them into Amoeba records and buy more stuff:).

jrobinson 12-18-06 06:51 PM

I put them in storage with the other crap I don't watch.

Bacon 12-18-06 06:56 PM

Give them to people I don't like :D

mh4268 12-18-06 07:24 PM

I give them to the old man or brother. Giving to thelibrary is also a nice (and I believe tax deductible) way to go.

TylerDurden_73 12-18-06 07:32 PM

I trade mine in to FYE I got $4 a disc...Woohooo

shizawn 12-18-06 07:33 PM

I've been giving them to my mom.

stingermck 12-18-06 07:50 PM

Well with sites like this, I find out months in advance, so I eBay them to unsuspecting J6P :)

Harold Wazzu 12-18-06 07:53 PM

Give them to my nephew if it's PG-13 or less.

packaok 12-18-06 07:58 PM

Sell most on Half.Com or Ebay. Sell some to the local dealer at the flea market (pays $8 each for titles that he needs). Even if I don't get but a few $ for them, it is better than having them sit around and never be watched again...

Also, there are some that I keep because of extras that are missing between the two versions... Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Silence of the Lambs Criterion come immediately to mind. I have the newest version of each, but the old extras (commentaries, etc.) are too good to let go.

Ginwen 12-18-06 08:46 PM

I have an out of the way storage place (under the TV in my computer room) I stick them along with various tins and other packaging I don't really want to waste space on. I probably have 10-15 or so. I don't really like to rebuy stuff, but I'm a sucker for things like the Ten Commandments or Maltese Falcon where you get other versions of the movie.

I would never get rid of that one anyway since I somewhat prefer that cut of the movie (some of the new dialogue is really grating to me). That one stays on the main shelf with the other Eastwood movies.

Al_Tahoe 12-18-06 09:27 PM

Give them to family members.

Doughboy 12-18-06 09:29 PM

Unless they contain extras I can't live without, I eBay them. I've been able to get rid of almost every SD-DVD that I've upgraded to HD-DVD. Unfortunately I won't be able to do the same with Blu-ray since they routinely drop many if not all the extras.

MisterHowie 12-18-06 10:04 PM

Mostly I sell them at a CD-DVD exchange place or I occcasionally give them to family.

OutRun2 12-18-06 10:19 PM

I have the same problem. Does anyone know if either Fry's, Best Buy or Walmart buys back used dvds?

Heat 12-18-06 10:33 PM

Those are retail stores, not used DVD stores.

One place that buys used DVDs is www.secondspin.com though don't expect top dollar. Your best bet would be ebay.

TheMovieman 12-19-06 12:19 AM

Someone mentioned that Ferris Bueller DVD and I held on to the old copy as well, but what I did was combine it using an empty 2-disc case. Did the same with Daredevil (theatrical/DC), Mr. & Mrs. Smith and a few others.

FantasticVSDoom 12-19-06 07:22 AM

Sell, trade, give away...However, now with HD-DVD I have some dvds that Im not sure what to do with. For example, I have Batman Begins with the comic and a sealed wide screen Corpse Bride from Wal-mart with the Lenticular cover that I cant justify trading in but will never do anything with, so trying to figure out what to do with it.

Wildo1966 12-19-06 08:01 AM

Personally I put my extras together and Ebay them as a lot. I can't stand selling them one by one on Ebay, alot of time to list and little payoff...

rexinnih 12-19-06 08:03 AM

Get rid of them on Amazon.

nemein 12-19-06 08:20 AM

If you itemize your taxes give them to a library and take the write off. It doesn't give you cash in hand but IMHO it's relatively easy compared to the hassle of listing them, dealing w/ shipping and then wonder if the buyer is going to screw you somehow.

Johnny Zhivago 12-19-06 10:25 AM

DVDPlanet for store credit, use the credit for Criterions...
