give to friends or trade them in at Blockbuster, etc.

tofferman 12-19-06 11:32 AM

First, if there is a market for them on Ebay, and the dvd is flawless, I'll sell them there. If there is no market on Ebay, and the dvd is flawless, then DVDPlanet is my second option. If the dvd has marks, scratches, etc...but plays, I'll either give them to a relative or donate them to the library.

I sell them off.

If it is a different "cut" of the movie, I sell them after I watch them. I do that because in one case (Dumb & Dumber) I sold the original but hated the modifications of the "unrated cut" so much that I re-bought the original version. I felt that the added footage and changed music in one scene destroyed that movie.

Brian Shannon 12-19-06 01:19 PM

Most time I keep them

slymer 12-19-06 02:16 PM

Give them to my brother

SINGLE104 12-19-06 02:37 PM

The only time I double dip on DVD titles, is when the new release is an improved anamorphic transfer only, then I will sell the previous non-anamorphic DVD. The special features I can do without, because i never watch them. I am only interested in the movie.

I'm sure people are tired of reading all the boring details about how I manage my collection, so I'll just say that I typically trade them in.

Trevor 12-20-06 08:26 AM

I keep them if anything at all is not included in the upgrade (trailer, commentary, even filmography).

Those that I don't keep get gifted to friends/family, or maybe ebayed in the future.

uebetan12@yahoo 12-20-06 08:38 PM

i give them to my sister who cannot afford to buy the imported dvds, (im from the philippines in asia, a poor country), and i also give some of them to my cousin and nephews and niece, in order that they can appreciate the beauty of the movies that i have seen

BackStJoe 12-20-06 10:01 PM

I usually just pass them on to my sister...she doesn't really care about the features...

tbwmp88 12-20-06 10:53 PM

I wait for a good trade in deal and then get rid of them.

J-Dubya 12-21-06 02:01 AM

i boil them

bodomnet 12-21-06 08:15 AM

Ebay

gutwrencher 12-21-06 05:35 PM

Some I keep. Some I donate to my fave local library and hospital. Some I sell for un-Godly prices on Ebay and Amazon. Some....I give to not-so-fortunate-friends or employees.http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/we...smiley-005.gif

Nothing, I do not "double dip", I hate it when they put out an "inproved version" later on just to get more money from us. If we all stopped DDing, they would stop that insane practice.

When I upgraded to the 2-disk edition of Star Trek IV, I sold the single disk version to a fellow Trek fan at work. The net cost of upgrading worked out to be $3 and change.

My mom loves the Lois/Superman flying scene in Superman: the Movie, so I gave my original DVD release to her, plus Superman II, when I bought the Ultimate Collection.

SnapDawg 12-22-06 01:37 PM

Some I keep, some I give away to friends who don't want or care about the latest silky smooth version.

Thanks,

Yes, and if we all stopped buying gasoline, Detroit would have to come up with an alternative fuel source. Anybody prepared to do either and simply go without? Didn't think so.

OldBoy 12-22-06 06:54 PM

Double Dips...strictly for money or give fans more?

I was thinking about this. We all hate the double dips and even buy the 1st when we know a 2nd is coming. Why? Because we love the movie first, right?

I always want the better version also and double/triples usually portray that.

For some reason I was thinking of John Travolta and the new "Grease" release. He actually went out promoting it with Olivia and the like. I know he doesn't need the money, so I think he actually did it because he recognizes one of the movies that made him famous and wanted to give it to the fans in a suped-up release. Of course, he coulda got paid by the production company and just wanted to pimp it out.

So do production companies put them out strictly for the dough or could they actually want to give the fan more to love?

gutwrencher 12-22-06 07:00 PM

It's all about the $.
