Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

Mine shipped today, I chose super saver, but both items are shipping by UPS, and separately. I wonder how that is cost effective?

Well Amazon has officially sold out of the Third Man Blu-Ray. Wonder how long the DVD will last on there?

Ordered my BD copy of The Third Man from Best Buy. $28 shipped, not bad at all.

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

I received my Third Man Blu-ray from Amazon today, and it also came in a plastic case.

I think I'll wait a bit until stocks are lower before selling my DVD version. By then, I should have a BD player...

I picked up a BD copy during the summer Criterion sale. And yes, it's in the digipack case.

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

I got my copy ordered at work. It's come in, although I haven't picked it up yet (I'll try to do that next week, as it's being held for me).

It's apparently in the clear case, which is cool. I wouldn't have had any problems with the cardboard case, but I do prefer the plastic one, so I don't have any objections.

Why is the booklet of the blu-ray missing half the content of the dvd booklet?

It's printed in hi definition so it needs less pages.

Okay, I'm being an ass. I really don't know the answer.

Received my copy from Barnes and Noble and it too was in the plastic case....thank God. I really thought it would be the dreaded digi-pak.

They said they decided they wanted to conserve on paper and packaging somewhere to keep the price for the Blu-ray low. That they would have the complete booklets to read online.

That's crap. Online. And oneday when the site could be gone, you don't have it. Crap. They held the same price for Blu-rays, because they said that they were already doing HD masters for the DVDs. Following that logic, it wouldn't cost them more or much more to give a full book.

You could simply print out the booklet. I did that with Sunrise's supplemental material.

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

I could, but my point is based upon their stated pricing and its reasoning, there should be no reason to cut down the book in order to hold this pricing. Plus, a printout is never going to be as nice as the original designed book.

It's not a horribly huge deal, but it does detract from the package for me in the same way they release The Last Emperor in Blu, but all you get is the one cut. At least give us the cut in Blu and the rest in SD so we have the full package. I'd like to get that one, but feel I'd need to pick up the DVD too which really sucks.

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

I had this DVD a few years ago on Criterion - it was a good movie and definately worth watching, but it wasn't a movie that I could see myself watching more than once so I ended up selling it on ebay.

Wow...I just bought it and it's easily one of those films that's easy to get into and very very good. It's nothing like Citizen Kane where it's just so thick and you watch it a few times in a year. Third Man is a lot easier on the viewer.

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

found a blu ray at my local Border's today and picked it up with their weekend 40% off anything coupon - $26 out the door.

Unfortunately it's the dreaded digipack.

I ordered a copy from Amazon and Barnes and Noble Online in hopes that one or the other would be the plastic case. Turns out both are. One will go up on eBay as soon as the insanity sets in.

Would this be some kind of replacement case for people who got stuck with the cardboard sleeve? I wouldn't even mind paying a few bucks (just a few bucks) for a plastic replacement case for THIRD MAN and a couple of others that just look dreadful in that packaging. Or is the only way to get plastic to buy it all over again?

EDIT: Found my answer. Apparently replacement cases are being made available for all the former digipack titles. $5 a pop, shipped. A bit much, really, considering it was their own poor judgment on the digipacks in the first place, but it's probably the only option.

I really need to make this a priority in the near future.
