I sometimes do it for reason #8, and occasionally #6.

I catalogue my DVD's and viewing habits for my own purposes, but I keep the link in my sig in the off chance someone's interested.

Yeah, I'm with the picture folks. I always enjoy seeing photos of people's collections and home theater setups so I can live vicariously through those who do have room for a real HT along with racks and racks of DVDs.

I will have to go with number two, mainly if I'm about to open a new ch account and need a few titles to fill up the order or that I may have forgotten about. I think that they are very helpful reminders for the most part.

I know this thread is about looking at people's lists more than making a list yourself, but I just thought of a major reason I don't do that. Most of the DVDs I'm proudest of and would want to "brag" to others that I owned aren't ones that would be listed in normal DVD databases (i.e., my PDTV stuff, and "unofficial" DVDs made by others of stuff you can't buy in stores).

I look when someone in the Exchange forum asks potential traders to look at their collection for their want list. That also allows me to see if they already own something else I might have to offer. I may set up a DVD Aficionado account myself for the same purpose, if I ever find the time to catalog everything.

Otherwise, no.

I sometimes like to see how people who list their collections sort their titles (genre, actor, director, etc).

No, but might start for option 3.

I do because I'm nosey, and I like to see what other people have. It took me a while to put my collection in my sig, because I thought people would hound me for owning full-screen DVDs.

I do to see how many and what people have. Not regularly.

Some new member sent me an appreciation email about my collection one time.

I put the link in my sig so I can get to fast it if I'm not at home. Especially handy if someone posts a bargain and my faulty memory can't remember if I have it already.

I for one know that I looked at everyone's collection in this thread that had the link in their sig.

You can typically look at the first four films listed and go "oh yeah, they like those kinds of movies."
That is so true. I'll often get a chuckle out of some of the crap people buy.

For anyone reading, that's your cue to look at my list and use Jason Goes to Hell against me. Punks.

Seriously though... I see someone's list, see 10 Things I Hate About You right there at the top, and just giggle a little... I also picked on kids in school sometimes.

I love browsing other people's collections!

And now that Gutwrencher does not post that often the one above, , happens to be a "prefered target".

Ciao,

Sometimes I do to get ideas for some films to check out, especially those with similar tastes.

I'm not trying to put anyone down, it's just that it gets pretty predictable after a while. You have horror fans, film noir fans, anime fans, etc., so the collections don't usually offer too many surprises. I'm not saying it's pointless to have them, just that I don't look at them much anymore because I'm more interested to know about how people store and organize their collections than what's actually in them, unless of course it's rare stuff like exclusives, non-R1 SEs, etc. I really don't wanna know stuff like how many OOP titles they managed to snag that I'm still looking for, or who directed each film. That being the case, photos are fine without the details.

I check them out quite a bit, especially during DDD sales, to get ideas for movies I wouldn't have thought about.

Nope, not at all. I simply dont care about others collections. Checking peoples Home Theater setups is more educational for me.

Once or twice, but generally no. I do have my collection list online (for my own record) but never posted it.

Yeah, sorry about that Pro. It seems I've neglected my dvdbuds over the last year but it's not on purpose. First it was the health issue and now that I'm all better, I've been trying to increase business over the last 6 months and I've been working even more. I have time for a film or 2 a day, but actually finding time to sit down and post in the forums has been a struggle. I STILL have not updated my library link and I'm still about 180 titles behind on the listings. I have slowed down a bit on buying...maybe down to about 4 a week with MAYBE a new HDDVD title, if the title is worth it. Then there was the kayaking bug that bit me earlier this year and I have not been able to stop. Any chance I can get a long river trip in....I'm gone, baby!! 400 miles on the rivers so far this year!!

Back to links. Yes, I've always provided a link to my library. Not to brag or showoff...thats stupid. Just to SHARE my tastes with others. Maybe turn a new, obscure title onto to someone else. On the flipside....I have been turned onto many titles via someone elses link. It's there to look at. If someone does not care or want to look...then Christ people...DON'T.

I promise to update my list just after Christmas, so check then for new updates. Meanwhile......

...Go Bulldogs!!!

OOPS....sorry for that! C'mon, gimme a break. I've only been waiting 28 years.

Well, health comes first in my book...and then everything else! Films and DVDs are far less important.

Good to know that you are still around though

Merry Christmas to you and your entire family!!
