I have 17 bucks in Best Buy certificates, so the steel case edition's a no-brainer.

Most likely that they're finalizing site details / descriptions and also due to the fact that they (Best Buy) are unaware of my forecasting their sales to rabid DVDTalkers / CAG'ers.

:D

DAMN! Are you IN this movie?

I'm going to say the BB steelbook is 2 discs based (mainly) on the fact that the 2 disc isn't available on their website, leading me to believe this is it. Which would be awesome.

OldBoy 02-08-07 05:02 PM

well, my steelbook shipped today. prob. get it monday. let you all know what it truly is...

dvd_luver 02-08-07 05:33 PM

Not sure if this has been posted here, but I got the 1 disc SAG edition in WS and I scooped up the 2 disc DVD as well. Both the 1 disc and the 1st disc in the 2 discer are identical to eachother, with movie previews being on the retail version. So if your looking at prices or whatever, the 2 disc set has all the SF carried over on disc 2 and disc 1 is excatly the same as the single retail R1 release. Only difference is artwork and disc art on both disc 1 and the 1 discer and of course artwork. So people are basically gonna be paying $10 or so bucks extra on a Special features disc.

To say nothing of the steelbook packaging!

tonymontana313 02-08-07 07:24 PM

Oh, yeah, the steelbook packaging, I just got the normal 2-disc set, not sure what that is all about yet but I am sure it's gonna be smooth.

riotinmyskull 02-09-07 08:31 AM

for those questioning whether or not the steelbook is the two-disc, this is taken from bestbuy.com:

"Limited Edition Steelbook packaging with exclusive package art only available at Best Buy. This Best Buy exclusive contains the 2-disc set, containing over 2 hours of bonus features, including two revealing documentaries on the real-life events that influenced the story of The Departed."

looks like i'll be getting my copy at best buy

Count me in too. Looks like a lunchtime run on Tuesday!

Simpson Purist 02-09-07 08:59 AM

I figured the steelbook would contain the 2-disc set. I'll be at BB first thing Tuesday morning.

Knowing my BB, evn by lunchtime, they'll be like, "uh....whut? Departed?....uuuuuh........what's a steelbook?"

DarthMarino 02-09-07 09:12 AM

I love an easy decision.

tonymontana313 02-09-07 10:37 AM

Sweet! I just received a 20 dollar RZ certificate so the steelbook will only be 2.99 for me! Score one for the good guy!

Zodiac_Speaking 02-09-07 12:28 PM

Is the BB exculsive just the packaging (steelbook) or does the steelbook have something else with it?

Might just get the 2disc if its that; steelbook might be cumbersome to put on shelves...

obladioblada 02-09-07 12:49 PM

THIS SUCKS! I want the HD DVD but I like that steelbox. Damn I just cant justify both. I probably gonna get the HD but i'll wish I had the steelbox on the shelf. It just a tough day for collectors and PQ people.

riotinmyskull 02-09-07 01:04 PM

i'm hoping the case will be similar to texas chainsaw massacre ultimate edition

OutRun2 02-09-07 04:26 PM

Wait a minute so just to clarify....this Best Buy Steelbook or whatever it's called is the *ONLY* way to get the 2-disc version of The Departed with the documentrary and stuff? DDD won't be carrying the 2-disc version at all?

kms_md 02-09-07 04:38 PM

best buy for me as well, however, the target exclusive also has some appeal.

Incorrect. The 2-disc will be readily available at all retailers including Deep Discount. For now, the only way to get it at Best Buy would be to get the steelbook version however this will only be a limited promotion and it will eventually be replaced by the standard 2-disc set.
