The No Man 02-04-07 02:17 PM

well maybe on release week the single discs will be on sale, and the ltd steel case will remain the same price. Just trying to find excuses...hope it is the two disc.

DarthMarino 02-04-07 02:22 PM

Wow, if that's the one disc that creates a very tough dilemma. The case is awesome and I might even prefer that to what appears to be a pretty lean set of special features. I guess 100% confirmation on the "Scorsese on Scorsese" documentary could help.

The Valeyard 02-04-07 03:29 PM

The Target exclusive also has "bonus content" beyond the script book. Don't know what that means exactly.

The DVDTALK review just up confirms that Scorsese on Scorsese is on the disc.

Rizor 02-04-07 06:02 PM

Wow. The steel book thing is looking pretty nice.

exactly, but that's actully a bad thing you know why? cos that means if you order the LTD online it means that you will either get the 2-disc regular version OR the steel book version.

i ordered their Look Up In The Sky exclusive TWICE online and i got the regular version instead.

BestBuy should make a seperate page with different UPC number for ALL of their exclusives just like walmart and HMV(uk).

xage 02-04-07 10:42 PM

I hope its the 2disc within the steelbook come its release...

Simpson Purist 02-04-07 11:08 PM

Upon reading Randy's review and the confirmation the Scorsese on Scorsese doc, I'm definitely gonna get the 2-discer.

Yep, and "SOS" is a great documentary from start to finish, if you haven't seen it.
Ironic, though, that the best extra has nothing to do with the main feature. :D

Yeah, I wonder why they didn't release it with The Aviator since that's the last film covered.

Can a cheap DVD player make it so that there is a slight delay in the sound? Last night my friends and I watched our DVD of the Departed (1 disc version), and during a part where one guy punches another guy, my friend said "Wow, the sounds of those punches didn't match his hands hitting, kind of odd"...and then I started noticing that the entire track with the dialogue, sound , music,...was off by about 1/3 or 1/4 of a second...When "somebody" falls off a building and hits the ground, blood sprayed up just a slight instant before the sound of him hitting the ground occurred.

It's so slight, that if you really weren't paying attention, you might not notice it....HOWEVER, this was on a pretty cheap DVD player that they have set as "region free".

Is it possible that this caused the audio delay on the disc? Anyone else with the disc care to check theirs?

If the disc was sourced from where I think it came from, the delay is normal.

Seantn 02-05-07 01:35 PM

What do you mean? Where was it sourced from? This is the 1 disc version that'll go on Sale next week, it wasn't a screener or anything like that.

Won't people be pissed that there is a delay in the audio? When you know it's happening, it's kinda distracting.

Drexl 02-05-07 01:41 PM

Sorry, I thought it was a bootleg. I don't know why the audio delay would be in the real version, but I don't think the DVD player was responsible.

dvd_luver 02-05-07 02:04 PM

I own the 1 disc version, I did not have any problems at all with the audio. I was quite pleased actually with the audio track. The audio delay there has to be on your end, my disc was fine, no prob.

Seantn 02-05-07 02:29 PM

Thanks DVD_luver, that's what I thought. Their player is pretty cheap, so that must be it. Just wanted to make sure my disc wasn't defective.

Defiant1 02-05-07 02:37 PM

Based on my past purchases at B&M Future Shop, they'll just give away the Steelbook to anyone who buys either version of the movie. They keep the Steelbooks behind the counter. Based on past experience, they'll also have these in very limited quantities and most of the cashiers won't have a clue what you're talking about so be prepared for. I remember buying The Da Vinci Code there on release day back in November and I got the last Steelbook they had.

but, will the steelbook hold just the 1-disc or 2?

It would probably hold either one, since Warner has been using the single-disc-sized cases for their 2-disc editions for some time.

yes, but a steelbook is a whole other entity and can only have the hubs on one side with no disc insert possible. i don't think they would make a 2 hubber and give it to the 1 discers that would look odd.

MasterCXtreme 02-05-07 04:53 PM

Isn't the steelbook going over the whole DVD case itself?

OldBoy 02-05-07 04:54 PM

no. a steelbook is the dvd case. steel, tight with a snap-like closure. very nice!

animatedude 02-05-07 09:29 PM

i've just read this in another message board:

The Future Shop site says it's the 1-disc edition, but when I was in the store the other day, there was an ad stating Feb. 13th releases. It read 'The Departed: 2-Disc Future Shop Exclusive Tin'.

Mr. Cinema 02-05-07 09:55 PM

The steelbook is just bad ass looking. I think I'll have to get that regardless of which version is inside.

ScottsDvds 02-05-07 10:08 PM

I'm going to pick up the steel book from Best Buy and Target edition along with my HD-DVD from Amazon.

I don't know.. it really depends. I bought Cars and they gave me the Tin case at the counter, same with V for Vendetta and Underworld: Evolution. But when i bought Ice Age 2, It was a Tin case already wrapped. Same thing with X-3. There wasn't no 'second' case. It was the Tin case with the disc already inside. I much prefer buying the DVD and getting a bonus Tin case with it!

I guess i'll just have to go see for myself on Feb 13th. I work in downtown Montreal, so i'll go check during my lunch break. But there's no way i'm pre-ordering it, for fear it's only 1 disc!

DarthMarino 02-06-07 10:11 AM

Speedy posted the Best Buy ad in the bargains section. They make no note of a 2 disc edition. They just have the standard release for 14.99 and the limited edition with "bonus content" in the steel case for 22.99. I think it's safe to say that the steel cover edition has 2 discs especially with the pricing and lack of the normal 2 disc set.

I agree with you DarthMarino.

Tarantino can hopefully confirm this definitively.

BuckNaked2k 02-06-07 10:28 AM

You are correct, Sir. The BB website lists only the following editions:

Widescreen
Fullscreen
HD-DVD
Blu-Ray
Limited Edition Steelbook

Again, no mention at all of the 2-disker.

ShaunoftheDead 02-06-07 11:26 AM

It is so weird that this BB exclusive remains such an elusive mystery. Why doesn't the BB site have a description?

jmj713 02-06-07 11:39 AM

I have 17 bucks in Best Buy certificates, so the steel case edition's a no-brainer.

Most likely that they're finalizing site details / descriptions and also due to the fact that they (Best Buy) are unaware of my forecasting their sales to rabid DVDTalkers / CAG'ers.

:D

DAMN! Are you IN this movie?

islandclaws 02-08-07 01:12 AM

I'm going to say the BB steelbook is 2 discs based (mainly) on the fact that the 2 disc isn't available on their website, leading me to believe this is it. Which would be awesome.

OldBoy 02-08-07 05:02 PM

well, my steelbook shipped today. prob. get it monday. let you all know what it truly is...

dvd_luver 02-08-07 05:33 PM

Not sure if this has been posted here, but I got the 1 disc SAG edition in WS and I scooped up the 2 disc DVD as well. Both the 1 disc and the 1st disc in the 2 discer are identical to eachother, with movie previews being on the retail version. So if your looking at prices or whatever, the 2 disc set has all the SF carried over on disc 2 and disc 1 is excatly the same as the single retail R1 release. Only difference is artwork and disc art on both disc 1 and the 1 discer and of course artwork. So people are basically gonna be paying $10 or so bucks extra on a Special features disc.

BuckNaked2k 02-08-07 07:01 PM

To say nothing of the steelbook packaging!

tonymontana313 02-08-07 07:24 PM

And the postcards!

MasterCXtreme 02-08-07 07:40 PM

C'mon now for a username like dvd_luver... you should realize we're all suckers on here.
