I know how it happened. This past week, Warner Bros. mailed a free copy of the 1 disc DVD for the Departed to all SAG members.

Is it safe to assume that the R3 has the same special features? CDwow doesn't list the Scorsese on Scorsese documentary as one of them.

Overstock, TLAVideo, and couple of other retailers now list "Scorsese on Scorsese" as a feature.

There's this Futureshop exclusive metal case for The Departed which i'm itching to pre-order, except i think it's the 1 disc version of the movie. Which personnally i find pretty stupid since most people who collect movies usually want the 2 disc version of the movie they liked, and nothing screams more 'collector item' than a steel case.. no?

Can anyone tell me if they know for sure it this steel case comes with the 1 disc or 2 disc versions of the movie?

Wtf, that totally defeats the purpose of a 'collector's item'. Sure it's a sweet case and i'm a sucker for those. But 1 disc? That's totally preaching to the wrong crowd.

I really doubt a casual fan of the movie who plans on buying the 1 disc edition will pay more for the sweet Steel Case. But put the 2 disc collector's edition in that Steel Case and you've got ALOT more buyers... no?

Well, I caved, bid on one of the SAG discs, and won. And it came today.

Great picture, great audio (but not as full as in the theater), and ok menu design.

How much did you pay to get it early?

31 bucks, but for The Departed, it's worth every penny.

I just got my screener in the mail, so I should have a review up by Sunday afternoon or so. The movie looks and sounds great, but some of the bonus features on Disc 2 seem a bit thrown-together. Oddly evenough, the deleted scenes aren't even separated by chapter (and like the other widescreen extras, they're non-amamorphic).

Can you confirm whether or not Scorsese on Scorsese is on the disc?

If it really was the SAG disc, then it was the 1 disc edition. So you paid 31 bucks just to have the 1 disc edition 2 weeks in advance, but you could have bought the 2 disc edition for 23 dollars on release day?

If you click the link, it indicates on the webpage that the Future Shop Steelbook version is the one disc version. I'll confirm when I buy the movie on release day.

hmm... this is gonna be a tough decision on where to buy it from. At Target you get the 2 discs and a script, and at Best Buy you get the special case. I'm gonna have to wait to actually see a pic of the Best Buy version and know if it's 2 disc or not before I decide.

They don't even list the 2-disc set on the website, so the steelbook may actually contain that one.

It has to be the single-disc. Do you really think they would just charge $3 more for the extra disc AND the steel case and postcards?
