Oh, I totally agree- it's nuts to buy S3 just to have it, etc.

I'm gonna just assume that WB will eventually make good.

How can they not? It's a huge error that will get a lot of notice and give them terrible press unless they fix the problem. Maybe they don't care, but I think they'll do what they can to resolve the issue, in the name of good public relations.

The only problem is I'm sure whatever they do- they'll do it really, really slowly.

Which is infuriating but I guess just the way it goes.

DJariya 11-27-06 12:40 PM

Most likely it's probably going to take 4-8 weeks if not longer to finally get the damn replacement disc.

While annoying, a 1-2 month wait to see Superman III shouldn't kill anyone. Especially with 13 other DVDs to work through.

I fully expect Warner to fix this. I'd buy without hesitation.

freshticles 11-27-06 12:51 PM

I think I'm going to do the same thing I did with Brisco County Junior (which was missing the booklet here in Canada). I'll buy the set and everytime I go into Future Shop (which is a lot), I'll return it as defective. That way I ship like 4 sets back before they just agree to give me a refund.

Mr. Cinema 11-27-06 01:04 PM

Columbia House sent an email stating free shipping on boxed sets, so I placed an order for this for $69.97 total. I'll participate if they have an exchange program, but I'm not too upset since it's part 3 that's screwed up.

Living Dead 11-27-06 01:21 PM

I find it amusing that SIII is such a terrible movie that most people are like "Meh, who cares? It's just Superman III. They'll fix it eventually."

That being said, I feel pretty much the same way and will be buying this anyway. I can't imagine they wouldn't do something to recitfy the situatuion down the road.

The Monkees 11-27-06 01:53 PM

I know it's kind of a sneaky thing to do, but you can always buy Superman III separately, then sell the Superman III disc from the UE inside the DE Superman III box.

1. I think this crosses the line from 'sneaky' to 'fraudulant'.
2. As mentioned, the artwork on the discs themselves are different. The single release won't match the Ultimate box and vice versa.
3. You still would be out of pocket some $$$$, since you wouldn't be able to resell your open SIII disc for much money. Certainly not for what you paid.

The best bet is still to wait for Warner to set up an exchange, which I expect them to do shortly after the release date.

I notice people keep saying to "call Warner." What is the correct phone number to use?

I think the best bet is to just be patient for a few days. Warner is going to be made well-aware of this issue via various sources (if they aren't already) and will likely publish return info on their own within the week. I imagine that calling at this point will just lead to frustration (for both you and the rep on the other end).

CertifiedTHX 11-27-06 08:13 PM

The Digital Bits is now reporting that WHV will be providing replacement discs for both the theatrical cut of Superman: The Movie (with the correct audio track) and Superman III. An 800 number will be announced shortly.

Here's the deal - we've just spoken with Warner Home Video. They ARE going to be issuing corrected discs for both Disc One of the Superman: The Movie - Four-Disc Special Edition (also Disc One of the Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition 14-disc set) AND Disc Eight of the Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition. Disc One will feature the CORRECT original 2.0 audio track for Superman: The Movie and Disc Eight will feature the new Superman III: Deluxe Edition. ALL of the other discs streeting tomorrow are correct. The mistakes in the Superman: The Movie - Four-Disc Special Edition and the Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition were apparently just honest authoring/replication errors - not deliberate decisions - and Warner is already in the process of correcting them. NO recall of existing sets is planned at the moment, but we'll have an 800 number shortly that you can call and arrange to have the corrected discs sent to you via mail. The official statement from Warner will follow shortly, so be sure to check back in a little while.

Stay tuned...
Many thanks, Warner!

I got my ultimate box set today, and Superman III was indeed the old version.

It truly doesn't matter to me if the disc art doesn't quite match up to the other discs in the set, it's the correct content that counts. Frankly, I don't want to wait for the replacement, I'd rather just have it right away.

As for the audio "issue" with part 1, that doesn't bother me either. Purists may want it but it'll serve me just fine.

petroc 11-27-06 11:36 PM

I found another lengthy review of the set.

Updated, see first post.

Steve Phillips 11-28-06 10:26 AM

Hopefully the replacements will go out soon. I used Warner's exchange program on KISS ME KATE and I had the corrected disc in less than a week.

JM1 11-28-06 10:51 AM

Whoah...now I'm glad I ordered the Korean R3 set, which I only really did because it was cheaper for me in the UK than the R1 and it still had all of the same extras and specs...and it has the correct Superman 3 disc with commentary and extras.

Not checked the sound issue on Superman, but that's not really a big deal for me anyway.

Question is, how did Warners manage to screw up on the US releases but not the R3 ones?

jkersey 11-28-06 01:05 PM

Can anyone report if this issue for I & III is in all boxed sets??

The issue for I is in ALL releases (even the singles). Warners has to completely re-do the disc.

The issue for III is ONLY in the Ultimate (silver tin) set.

hindolio 11-28-06 08:46 PM

im guessing that for those of us who have not yet acquired the tin that these issues will be fixed in the "next batch"?

Matt Naglieri 11-28-06 09:11 PM

another problem?

I just bought my set from costco and disc 12 which is the look up in the sky documentary retains the artwork from the original release instead of matching the other 13 discs in the set as cleary pictured on the back of the box

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing or is this just a oddity?

Also great that Warner is issuing replacements for their mistake but where is the quality control? This should NEVER have happened and one would think someone would be checking the final product for errors before it gets shipped to stores.

advdfreak 11-28-06 09:33 PM

Mine was the same too on the "Look In The Sky" doc. I am loving this set! Best dvd purchase of the year for me, even with all headaches of the wrong edition of Superman III and the missing 2.0 audio on Superman: The Movie!
