I was wondering though if they need to do a new disk that is compatible with all players or if its just a batch of bad disks?
|
not sure, I'm going to try a diffrent best buy tommorow to exchange this at. someone over at HTF that they had two copies. one played on player A but the second copy would not play on player A.
so it seems some bad disc are out. |

wow!
We wait *forever* for these sets to be remastered, repackaged and resold and this is the thanks we get. No Thanks! |
Christ, a couple (literally, like two) people get bad "FRWL" discs and people basically start in with the "James Bond raped my childhood!" insanity.
My "From Russia With Love" played flawlessly and looked phenomenal, as have all the ones I've watched so far ("Dr. No" through "Moonraker") I can't wait to watch "For Your Eyes Only" through "Die Another Day". |
i don't think it was just those bad disc, i think the missing booklets and people getting doubled up bonus disc, non matching cases, and scratched disc. Not to mention all the framing issues (which hasn't been talked about as much here as over at the HTF)
i agree the movies are wonderful, and the dvds are stacked with extras, but the quality control is botched across the board on these. |

The transfers do look great (don't tell that to people on HTF though) but there are a lot of quality control aspects with the set. Several films have audio dropouts that shouldn't be there, and packaging errors, etc. For a set that runs several hundred dollars, it isn't expecting too much to have better quality sets. Also, to add, the MGM defective DVD email address is [email protected]. |

i shot off an e-mail as well, and thank any of the rest of you who would do the same. I hope they pay attention to multiple e-mails
edit... seems the e-mail address is no longer valid as it says Delivery Status Notification (Failure) |

I found a phone number that might be worth trying. The James Bond website is at jamesbond.foxhome.com. So I looked at foxhome.com and found a notice for a recall of a Shirley Temple set. In that notice was a phone number. Don't know if the number is specific to that recall, but it's probably worth trying. The number is:
(877) 541-2229 Couldn't find an email address at foxhome.com A couple of other numbers from the Customer Service thread in the Store Forum: Fox Home: 1-888-223-2FOX MGM: 1-877-MGM-4YOU [email protected] or [email protected] |
|
I sent an e-mail to [email protected] describing my problems (see above...Moonraker has multiple layer change-esque freezes in it, my GoldenEye was in a weird case and all scratched to hell, and Tomorrow Never Dies pixelates and skips wildly during the helicopter chase scene) weeks ago. I haven't heard a damn thing yet. This is very frustrating.

I actually got a from russia with love that worked on my dvd players at barnes and noble today. I think if you keep trying you may find one. It was at the downtown seattle barnes and noble.
|
I bought all four volumes at Circuit City to take advantage of their $15 off deal and every set as been in perfect condition. All of the booklets in each set and no loose/scratched discs. Haven't had a problem playing any of the discs either in my Sony 5-Disc Changer.

Just got this back from MGM Online regarding an inquiry about the problem I had with From Russia With Love:
"Thank you for your email. If you have experienced problems with your DVD and seek a replacement, please contact 20th Century Fox as they have been appointed to handle all of MGM's Home Entertainment distribution. You can reach Consumer Products at [email protected] or call them directly at (888) 223-2369. Thanks for visiting MGM.com! MGM Online" |
awesome. i'll send some mail
|
I haven't watched any of the "disc 2's" but I watched all 20 films with no playback problems whatsoever.

If you play one the bonus features, it plays in regular English audio, but auto starts Japanese subtitles. But I just put a disk into my computer for screen caps, and it showed English text, then somehow switched to Spanish. I dont know, I have a setting somewhere that has changed or what. Doh! Thanks Cameron. Sounded like such a weird problem that I didn't even think to check it out.
My Dads player is a region free player so that explains it. Thanks again. |
I just spoke to someone at the (888) 223-2369 number and was told to return the disk to this address:
FOX CONSUMER ATTN: ERICA 20102 S. VERMONT AVE TORRENCE CA 90502 It will take 6 to 8 weeks for them to send you a replacement. The disk i'm having problems with is FRWL. It will not play on either of my dvd players. Hope this helps. |
