I thoroughly enjoyed Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet in the theater many years ago. Hamlet is a Warner title that is not yet on DVD. Of course, imdb tracks this movie. But, I only know of one website that exclusivlely tracks this movie. And Warner's told that website that Hamlet would be released in 2007.
Mini-review of why I want the movie on DVD:
I don't think there were any changes to Shakespeare's original words. Was that the first "Hamlet" movie to do that? Branagh changed the century that the story was set in, but that gave him better lighting in his castle. The photography was excellent. I think it was filmed with 65mm or 70mm (?) filmstock. That was different than other films. I hope that transfers well to DVD or HD-DVD.
Yes, I agree that some of the "stunt" casting was distracting to the story, but it also made it fun to watch.
What I remember from that movie is the timeless story and the awesome picture. That made it wonderful theater-going experience. And it is one title that I would like to see on disc.

if looks could kill(1991) i love this richard grieco film.some people may not like it, but I love this film. just to have this barebones and in widescreen on dvd would be great, and maybe a richard greico commentary as well, and one with anwar. one with linda hunt would be interesting.!
And Performance is being released here in the U.S. in February. So I hope this person was correct with The Devils coming out in 2007. It better anyway or I will be extremely upset with Warner. And if they do release it in the cut R version only,I will be even more upset with them!
Performance was rerated R recently, and it may be the uncut originally X rated version from what I'm told(which is what was recently resubmitted in the U.K. for release).
I don't see the uncut version of The Devil's passing with an R rating though. Well if they do use the British print of the film. I can see it getting an R today. But if the 'rape of christ' sequence were restored. I can see it easily earning an NC-17 in that case.
Though it would be a great surprise if that sequence did pass with an R rating today. I can dream, can't I
I know a print screened at the Seattle Cinerama in October, so I wonder if someone is working up a master for near-term release.
And I don't think a Ken Russell set is in the offing. Though we may get a series of releases like Warners did with a few Visconti titles a few years back.
